thanks guys, i wanted a nice ride when i started but i am going overboard now.

but when i am done it will be cherry. my springs are getting powdered right now also, tim m.

sould have the axles under it in like two or three weeks.:p

Gregsmx, the silver vain is simi textured. but it looks great, and the clear coat it powdered also. Landon

Hello everyone ! I was hoping to get the axles under the truck last weekend. But I ended up buying the wrong rear springs, well I ordered the right springs and 4 wheel parts gave me the wrong ones. I should have known better then to trust them. I got the springs powdered and well it sucks, now I am out $200.00 for the powder coating.

I am going to get the right ones on saterday. It will take me like three weeks to save up the cash for the new springs to be powdered. I will have more pic's of the frame and suspention then. Landon

so I'm new to all this, but I have a 71 chevy truck that I bought.

I know my way around engines and cars, but I have never restored a truck before.

My question is this:

what is the benefit of powdercoating your frame and springs and axles?

30 years from now my son will be driving a beautiful truck. I think that the powder coating looks a lot better, than paint. I also would have to say it is easier to clean, and it looks good. I went with the powder coating, mostly for the show look. If you resore one for show/daily driver, go with the powder coating. If it is going to be a daily driver only, paint it. It will save you a lot of money, and you will not be up set if the paint chips. Landon

I was considering getting my axles p.c. (i also have the 60/14 combo) did you strip the axles yourself or did you have your rear end shop do it? If you did it yourself how hard was it,any special tools required, and did you strip them down to bear housings? Thanks, and the parts look great!

I am in the middle of stripping my front axle right now. The rear was pretty staight forward to take apart.

sakohntr, total cost for the frame was around $700-$800. I got the frame, both axles complete, all the engine brakets, fuel tank straps, radiator support, battery box <I think thats it> all that stuff cost me $2000.00. The clear was totaled into the price.

I got a couple of differant quotes, and they were all lower than the $2000.00. I talked to all the guys I got quotes from and the guys at Cross Link got my bussiness because they were up front, and honist with me. ( they had the cleanest shop also )

BLAZIN'72, I took my axles apart, and had Right Gear and Axle put them back togeather. They were really easy to take apart, and putting them back togeather, should be just as easy. I have know idea to tell you the truth. I have never put one back togeather. Landon

Well here is what is gong on now with our project, Go the springs powdered again but the were the wrong size again, so we are trying to get this figured out. The truck is driving me crazy, I can not wait to get this done...:p

Landon, your project is reallly looking good. I'm following along at about the same pace. It's great to see your son involved. He'll always remember this summer!

It was your thread that convinced me to powder coat my frame as well, but went with traditional black (I did go with a higher gloss than std).

I have a basic webpage that is recording a few progress pics if you care to check them out.
