Re: Is this the right water pump for an L31 Vortec with Vintage AC?
Thanks Geezer I am hopeful that this works. Is there a thermostat to look for that has the holes for this L31? Is the fail safe brand just a gimmick?

Use what you got!
Way down the road if you think you might have a problem then look into it. Likely you won’t. |

Re: Is this the right water pump for an L31 Vortec with Vintage AC?
The water pump you have now comes back as fitting a 96 to 2000 350 and should be a reverse rotation pump. If it is a reverse rotation pump it will work with a serpentine belt set up but not v belts. The serpentine set up turns backwards compared to the v belt and requires a reverse rotation pump.
Someone mentioned just drill holes in the thermostat and skip the bypass all together. I tried that and it didn't work. It would seem to work at first but on a long drive on a hot day my temperature gauge would go crazy. It would be jumping all over. I put a bypass from the intake through my heater core back to the pump and it's been fine every since. If you don't want a heater you can just loop a hose from the intake to the water pump. |

So when it says timing belt that means serpentine? https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...0217&jsn=19498 How about this one, is this a fit? Im trying to be sure also to get the long pump since the vintage air and alan grove brackets I have are set up for that. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...m=water%20pump Last edited by msg; 10-21-2020 at 03:19 PM. |

The pump I had before looks similar, it only has some stamped lettering that may not help ID what year/make this originally came off of. The garage that did the power steering conversion for me years back is closed down. They added this and the bracketry to the old 350 I had then.

I wonder if the reverse as you mention means the pulley mount would only go in one direction? That one spins either way so unless the propeller is designed in a curved style blade type way vs just straight out I wonder if it matters?

I apologize if I mislead you in my earlier post. I thought you were saying the pump in your link was the pump on the motor. |
