To sum things up there is not an individual engine number to a specific chassis as would be the case of VIN stamped car engine of the era. But any number of vehicles could have used that specific plant, date and application code when built. So if it happens to match the code on your pop then it is numbers correct replacement for original engine. Too many sellers spout "numbers correct" but I yet to find one that could confirm the date codes of the heads, block and intake as preceeding the engine assembly code date. Much less the carb or distributor.

If you do the numbers that works out to about 5 miles a day over the 42 years. That is a lot of sitting, and sitting is never good for an engine nor are short trips.

Be careful when machining a block if you want to preserve the engine code on the front pad...decking may wipe that info clean away
