Re: Through side fender exhaust photo please

I'm looking for some headers for the same idea. I can't find any that go to the outside of the frame

Re: Through side fender exhaust photo please

Race car fab guys have them. Rick Jones, Jerry Bickel, etc. You weld mounts to the trim rings and weld mounts to the inside of the bed to bolt to. What you are looking at on that truck is probably hand made.

Re: Through side fender exhaust photo please

You're going to build 'em, not buy them. If it were a kit I think we'd have seen more of them. Dare to dream though, it could ne a niche product.

If it were me (and it ain't) I'd suggest using a full over-the axle exhaust system, but use valves to optionally divert it to the side-exits. Best of both worlds, quiet cruise, scare the children next to you at the traffic light...

To keep the fender hole small I might suggest rigid-mounting the exhaust tip to the fender itself (properly insulated) and then use a small section of that flex-braid exhaust pipe (like you see on OEM cars and turbos so often) so there's some give.

That way it'll never rattle on the fender and your exhaust system movement remains (largely) independent from the movements of the body and frame.

As for "Don't do it, Len" he never explained himself on the Flintstones either.

I am making the system from scratch and have placed the muffler boxes under the floor, the plan was to cut out a hole of say 3.5" and fit a trim piece flush with the fender, then run the 2.5" pipe inside this independent.

With 1/2" clearance all around i think it should be ok.

Will report back once i have done one side

Re: Through side fender exhaust photo please

Ok so i bit the bullet and started on this, going to turn up a alloy ring to fit between the fender and the pipe to give it a better look.

No problems asking

This was a 3 1/2" one, got it here in the UK from an exhaust parts company.

Re: Through side fender exhaust photo please

When Stacey did it to Copperhead he cut a hole threw the frame and welded a tube in 1st then ran the ext pipe threw that so it wouldn't have to be hanging under the frame. He did a really nice job. Have considered it but haven't done it yet. Each to their own, it is what hot rodding it all about.

I like it.

But if I did it on my truck, I'm afraid that it's look like this (different color...and RAT's just a driver) after a few weeks.

Re: Through side fender exhaust photo please

Just to bring this to a end

I have now finshed the side exit pipes and here are some photos of how i did it for anyone who wants to have a go.

Cut out on the body

Photos of the trim pipes with the alloy rings fitted used to hide the fixings.

And a video the final results.
