Bottom line once again....it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Re: 1967 california black plates

I am using my original plates. A guy in Texas did them for me. I just want to see what this "New" Black Calif plate looks like.

My originals were so bad I was worried that CHP would pull me over and give me a ticket. Then I may not have been able to keep the plates. I sent mine one at a time because I did not want to lose both plates as I'd never done business with the guy in Texas. All came out good.

Can you post a pic of your New Black Calif plates?

Thanks,
jeff

Re: 1967 california black plates

MN lets you use old plates if they are cleared by the system.
I had Yellow/Blue truck plates on my 69 when I sold it.

I have another set of Y/B for my '72 and a set of White/Green for my '71 on the way, both sets are new in plastic (never issued) and the prices are cheap @ $30 or less per set!

Minnesota stamped the year into the plates until '75 so the year is raised

I like the nostalgia of the original style plates also,

Re: 1967 california black plates

I ordered a set for my 62 and been wondering if and how fake they will look considering all the speculation and rumors I heard, what will be issued.
Today a Deputy Sheriff friend of mine called to tell me about the plates DMV reproduced to look like the 63 plate. I explained I was waiting for a set and I asked him what he knew.
He said some hippy chick went by with black plates on a car called a Yaris and he pulled her over thinking "stolen plates". Turns out she ordered them just like some of us and everything is on the up and up. I can imagine these plates showing up on garden trailers to mopeds. He did say they looked like the real deal and figured there will be some confusion for a while with law enforcement since there not limited to year specific.

Re: 1967 california black plates

They're stamped and look like the originals to me, aside from numbering convention. Worth getting if you don't have originals. If I did not have blacks on mine I would get some.

Nice... Thanks for posting!

Re: 1967 california black plates

It would be cool if they did these in actual vanity plates, so the difference in number/letter sequencing wouldn't stand out. Not that I'd let that bother me. They're just pieces of tin we are mandated to display. They are actually the property of the state (except the true vintage ones we buy). You look and see the old black plate with yellow characters...pretty cool. It's not like we spend a lot of time focusing on the license plates

In Maryland, the '67 plates were also black with yellow characters. That''s what I have for mine. The dealers who know what someone will pay top out at $120 for mint N.O.S. around here.

Re: 1967 california black plates

It just so happens that Canada's confederation was in 1867.
Ontario made 100 year plates in 1967

So I scored some nice ones at a flea market for $60 for front and back.

Debating to paint them black like the truck or leave them OEM blue.

Didn't mean strike any nerves, but you can't beat the real McCoys, especially on the stocker, raised or customs too.

I said all that about the new-made plates, but I'm a real McCoy guy, too. I was just saying those aren't awful and could get you by till you found good real plates...that aren't $300. And if some people can be happy with these it leaves more old ones for the rest!

Tim, I'm a real big swapmeet junkie and I usually can find decent pairs of DMV cleared commercial plates from the $40-$60 range, that's one of the reason why I prefer to buy the old ones and........... I'm way too cheap to pay the $300.

Re: 1967 california black plates

I'd be down right mad if you put the new ones on one of your trucks. Plus, you'd be cutting your wife out of her craft! I'm an old stuff fool too. Trucks are just part of the sickness. Old tags, dealer plate frames, gas cans, coolers, gas station hand-outs, anything vintage like that is more than just props for the truck. Lookin' for the stuff is all part of the hobby, love, sickness, life-style, whatever. I have vintage plates from states I would like to live in maybe some day. I like farm plates. That's what's on my '72. Now I have to get an old farm!

Re: 1967 california black plates

The new ones look pretty good to me. My only complaint is that is makes those of us with original ones less cool!
Or is this like driving a car with fake patina, while wearing pre-torn jeans?
