Re: Attention you get on the road
I wonder how someone who doesn't like a stranger approaching them to talk about their truck in public would feel if a built like a Barbie Doll long legged beautiful woman walked over acting all giddy over the truck wanting to talk about it? Just sayin'

Re: Attention you get on the road
Rolled across the "Tail of the Dragon" last summer in the blue Blazer.
There's a store just across the state line in North Carolina where all the bike riders hang out. I pulled up to the gas pump and 15-20 bike riders came over to look. One guy in particular was very excited to see it...wanted pictures..OK fine. He proceeded to tell me " I used to work at the plant where they made those"

Re: Attention you get on the road
Usually around town, where I try to avoid, I get everyone in their beater revving up their cut off straight pipes or wannabe cowboy in their Dodge Cummins revving as they pass the other direction- pretty normal for this small town. Every now and then an old farmer will catch me at the gas pump and ask some questions or say he would need a step ladder to get in. The gate attendant at Menards drools over it whenever I'm there to pickup my order or get lumber.
Seems guys in their classic cars don't want anything to do with a restored pickup though- I'll pass them on the road or see them in town and wave or give thumbs up but never get a wave back. The best is when I pick up my son at daycare though and he has to announce to everyone that I brought Big Blue and his friends all tell their mom's about the monster truck at school that day.

Re: Attention you get on the road
I got some funny feedback from a neighbor yesterday morning. My truck is still without a bed but I took my nephew for a ride to the far cul de sac and one of my neighbors was out in his front yard with his dog. He had a "what the hell is that?" look on his face and seemed somewhat underwhelmed. Here I thought we were rolling pretty cool. Guess maybe he thought otherwise.

Re: Attention you get on the road
Maybe you’re close, maybe you’re not. This medium isn’t conducive to expressing every nuance without making each post the length of a novel. Generalizations and snippets leave a lot of blank spaces for those reading to fill in.
I appreciate everyone’s post in this thread, whether you agreed or not, had bad interactions too or everything is just peachy keen. The bad interactions I posted are just the highlights from that category and the fact they were weighing on my mind was the reason for starting the thread. I thought we’d vent and share our bad interactions stories. I expected the “comes with the territory” type of responses, I didn’t expect it to turn into a discussion about preferences in interactions, example whether or not you like people approaching at a gas station. My dad is a gear head, so I was born and raised a gear head and he had cars from when I was about 12 on up. Maybe it’s rose colored glasses but I don’t remember anything like what I’ve experienced happening back then. Hopefully this year will be different for me and I’ll have more fond memories than memories of bad interactions.

My truck isn't painted because I choose not to paint it. I'll bet my truck is faster than his. But that is the exception more than the rule. Usually when I see or meet guys in our trucks we usually end up jabber jawing. It's funny the reactions that you get depending on what you're driving. I drove my Ranger when I commuted. There was a cute girl that I would see all the time, apparently waiting for her ride home from work. She never paid any attention to me. Then one day I had to drive my Corvette in to work. When I was sitting in traffic. She was standing there as usual and gave me a very friendly wave. That never happened in the Ranger.

Re: Attention you get on the road
My C20 is a dog, but gets some howling. One time I took it golfing and the gal who worked there was outside yelling at me from 50 yards away CHEVY, CHEVY, making like a cheerleader. Another gal offered to buy it when I took it in for tires. Old engine, come around a corner people don't know what to expect, they're not used to the sound of an old BBC, and nobody is used to a three tone Super. Other than that vintage folks like it, truck guys like it more, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Last I remember with my C10, folks at the pump & that gave halleluiah, but it was a diamond in the rough then, and most probably didn't know much about them anyway. Not sure what to expect later on, I don't let people see my truck Really, it's not drivable yet, but be sure it aint going out much, too many people I didn't build it for show or show or for sale. Otherwise I'd have had it painted Hugger Orange instead baby poop Ochre

Re: Attention you get on the road
The one I just finished for my Dad, he says the only problem with it is that it takes 30 minutes to get gas! The inspection guys literally won't pull it into the bay. Harley guys especially seem to dig on it.

Well I’m from New York. If you are driving badly (especially at 70+mph) we will flip you off regardless of whether we think you are interested in our car or not. We are also suspect of anyone who randomly walks up to us but if you are nice we are nice. If you are rude, we will be rude or somehow let you know that you are being rude. How can a person correct bad behavior if they are never told it’s bad? When I started this thread I had been thinking of the subject all day and needed to vent, probably could’ve wrote some parts differently. I do own for the cars for me, don’t care what others think about them and drive them to unwind so would rather be left alone most days. But I don’t act rude for no reason, have had plenty of conversations and ended them nicely if I wanted to leave. I run radio control models, plenty of people come up to me seems like no matter where I am. I never hand them the controller but I’m nice about it, they usually don’t ask and understand when I refuse and have talked at length plenty of times. Even at work I get lots of random people coming up to me. I don’t know what it is about a man walking through a building with fire extinguishers that makes people want to come up to them but believe it or not it does. It’s different with the Camaro though. Just yesterday I took it to work and a deli on the way home. The deli owner always asks about the car, likes seeing it and it sparked a conversation about a local cruise night with a customer. All great, until another customer walked in and yelled “who’s got the Camaro out there?” I can see the car, nobody hit it, it’s not on fire, no puddles, nothing wrong. The deli owner asked “something wrong with it?” and he replied “No, I just want to buy it” proving he’s a jerk who doesn’t care about interrupting everyone to get his way. So I told told him it’s not for sale, he tried asking about the car and give me his number and told him I wouldn’t interact with him because of how he acted when he came in. He then apologized, I think only to get me to take his number, I accepted the apology but still refused the number and talking with him. He kept trying, finally left only to start walking towards my car, he was going to put his number on it if I didn’t come outside and yell at him to get the F away from it. Never placed an order or bought anything, came in and acted like a jerk just for the car.

Haha. It’s not anything all that special in my opinion. I don’t get too many offers to buy, just attention and what seems to me like way too many bad interactions. All I have on my phone right now are these

Re: Attention you get on the road
Well that's probably why , They drove by and saw it sitting out on the dirt with weeds all around it and thought it could be bought !

Re: Attention you get on the road
Nah, it all happens out on the road or whatever place I stop at with the car. Plus it’s garaged. I hate all the weeds and stuff in that picture because it’s actually my driveway. I admittedly was slacking before the picture was taken too. There’s gravel under there somewhere but since I bought the place it’s been like this with a layer of dirt over almost all of it. Does gravel sink or is that just previous owners not taking care of it and letting stuff grow through, leaves rotting on it etc?

Re: Attention you get on the road
I haven't had any really bad interactions in either my Camaro or my C10. I will say in Texas, I typically get more attention/comments in the C10.

Re: Attention you get on the road
The only time I felt like some one was a bit spoiled is when I had my 71 in a car show,,,,3 -4 years ago in a town near me .. after the judging I took a walk around to see the vehicles that won.. I came upon a guy with a great looking Harley and he was pretty mad for not getting his Harley a Trophy or some recognition. ( he was talking to another guy ,not me,,but gave me the eagle eye all the same )
So on my home on a country road,, and it was hot and I had my window down ,,no backed up traffic ,,a straight a way with no corners for maybe 2 miles ...and this same guy with Harley comes up behind me and just follows a bit at the same speed as me ..then when he passes ,,the noise level that hit me through my downed window into my left ear liked to deafin me for some distance down the road.. I did not get a trophy but I did get a paper that gave me a free pass with my truck the next year, I am guessing that he maybe did it on purpose .
