Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?

Great pictures, stories, and trucks.
Nice to see so many of these beasts enjoyed out in the elements instead of
being treated like a big piece of jewelry.

WD-40 .... sounds plausible given it's water displacement and anti-corrosion properties.
Here is a quote from their webpage:

Quote:
While the “W-D” in WD-40® stands for Water Displacement, WD-40® Multi-Use Product is a unique, special blend of lubricants. The product’s formulation also contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?

when we go to speed week , out on the salt flats we douch , (if you will) our under carriage with used engine oil in a air type bottle thinned with deisal , ya its messy , but when your on straight salt it helps , when we get done go straight to Wendovers car wash and get what we can of then I get home I stick it in a gravel yard and put my sprinkler under it for a few hours

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?

These trucks in stock form always started fine for me all winter. My '72 has HEI. I start it all winter. I just don't take it out in the salt because I don't want to ruin it. It's not jewelry, it's all truck. But, it's all truck I want to last

Much as I try to drive mine every day, no argument about the salt thing. They brine the hell out of the roads around these parts so I try to avoid that.

sboris I was under it again last night in the same TShirt and shorts....May have to wash them soon.

I feel for you guys under deep snow. But it looks like our trucks do well in it.

In Jan 1986 it snowed here... I woke up to see my bronze truck with the hood all white. My first thought was someone vandalized my truck. I later realized it was snow. It was the first time I had driven my truck when it was that cold. The snow didn't stick and the heater warmed me up quickly.

My '69 is tanning itself in Phoenix right now. Should be running in another month or so. Just got the gas tank cleaned and lined, a new fuel sender, o-ring and gas cap.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?

I'll go out ahead of the plows and salt. it's fun to be first out. We used to never get plowed till last, it seemed. My road is the county line. The county across the road does the stretch I live on and that side of the road is one big farm and a few houses. The farm is dairy, so the milk has to get out so Jeff would back his IH 1066 Turbo down the road with back blade while someone else scooped and dumped to the side with the skid loader. But, I'd be out first to cut a path out the other way. So, I don't winter drive, but I go play in the virgin snow. The Chevy had a No-Spin and the GMC has a Power-Loc

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?

You ladies don't know what driving a truck like this in the cold is like until you drive one on a frozen lake!

Just kidding on the lady shot, not the driving on the frozen lake part.

This was earlier this evening. Sorry about the crappy pictures, they were taken with my iPod phone. We haven't got that much snow but it has been windy and I'm hosting a party in the fish house this coming weekend so I was out with the blade doing a little cleaning up on my ice road.

Just came back from a 700 mile road trip. Drove on three different lakes too, found a suitable camper on one of them.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?

I would have had to grow up with that driving on a lake thing to be able to do it. I only drive over puddles that I can find my truck in if the ice fails. I worked for a guy from Vermont who told a nightmare story of a house being moved across Lake Champlain that is at the bottom of the lake (I know, serious tonnage), not that I hadn't already feared such a catastrophe. I'd say I'm a little girlie when it comes to this, but that wouldn't be fair to all the women who do it.

I live on Buffalo and Black Ankle is the road where the counties start and stop plowing. It's a dirt road along a creek, very pretty especially in the snow

I may be warm and cozy here in AZ but K, 69-72 and mrein3, that's what trucks were made to do......work and look good at the same time.

I miss daily driving mine in winter. I looked across these hoods for a good 25 years of my life through whatever mother nature threw at us. I used to live in Mountainaire, AZ outside of Flagstaff and you know what kind of weather they get up there.
