How about a potato stuck onto the broken stub....?
I just put a telescoping antenna on my K/5......it's advertised as "correct" factory reproduction.....I'm really not too concerned about the "correctness" as long as it works...it fit right and looks good....

I can only speak for 71-72. I imagine 67-72 were the same. My cable wasn't attached to the radio when I found it, but it just plugs in. First you have to pull the cowl panel. Other than that, here's what I have:

• Feed the cable into the cab hole from outside the cab. The hole is approx. 1" below the windshield. There was approximately 14" of cable outside the cab. The cab uses a grommet, inserted from the outside.

• The cable is retained by two rubber coated clips. These clip onto the ridge immediately below the glove box hole in the dash panel. Placement is approx. 1" inside each corner of the hole. The retainer portion faces the firewall and holds the cable down. The clips also retain the wire for the RH door jam.

Re: Poll - Your Radio Antenna for 1971-1972 Chevy

I replaced my Retrosound Classic digital radio with a “Antique Automobile” AM-FM slide bar radio, new center speaker and also replaced the antenna with telescoping antenna as I did not like the non-factory look (digital and that it covered all the opening) and was getting tired of the mast “springing back and forth” every time I went into/out of the garage.

After searching “Antenna” I found this thread to be the closest to the subject matter / question I have.

Is the antenna I removed factory? …… see pics and information below.
Part #’s on the nut: 3943656 and 181 300
Part #’s on the base: PMG 3979307
Fixed antenna: 31” long from tip of ball to the base of nut

That's what I'm planning. Would I need a 67-72 hanger?

Looks right to me

Part #’s on the nut: 3943656 and 181 300 Correct for low crown nut
Part #’s on the base: PMG 3979307 I'll have to check, but your base looks right
Fixed antenna: 31” long from tip of ball to the base of nut Couldn’t tell you

The chrome bezel should be stamped 3898672.

The ground “bezel” on that body slips off right? It’s part number 3898673, might be stamped.

Re: Poll - Your Radio Antenna for 1971-1972 Chevy

Bringing thread back up. Just got my original AM Radio back after having it converted to AM/FM Bluetooth etc. There is a note from the builder, see picture, saying if I have the original AM telescoping antenna on my truck, and I do, that it should be replaced with a fixed AM/FM Antenna. so its been a couple years since anyone posted in thisthis thread so wondering if anyone in that time has come across and ideally a fix mast antenna that would replave the telescoping one on my truck.

This replacement from Goodmark looks and fits exactly like the original , it also has the gromet seal and clips for the lower dash to install like an original , Best price I found was thru summit . Read the reviews on the Summit page

Re: Poll - Your Radio Antenna for 1971-1972 Chevy

my 72 Fremont built Cheyenne Super was a low miles,1 owner truck til me.it has an AM radio as per the build sheet,U63 P/Button radio and a telescoping antenna.the truck was in storage for 25 years and everything appears to be untouched.the cable to the antenna from the radio and routing don't appear to be altered or changed in anyway but i have no proof that it's original but it sure looks it.

Mine was a Janesville build and with the AM Radio and has the telescoping antenna like on your truck.

I found my C10 AM with a high crown cap nut. I don't know where the mast came from. Word is these trucks came with high crown nuts with telescope masts, and low crown came with fixed masts. Personally I like the high crown with fixed mast, so I rebuilt the antenna as found adding a NOS fat ball fixed mast. That assembly was installed in 67 Corvettes.

Why wouldn't a fixed mast replacement install with your existing parts? Cosmetic? Unfortunately I don't have access to my truck for a pic.

Truck replacement, it would seem. Perhaps it would look odd with the tall nut, hmm.

Re: Poll - Your Radio Antenna for 1971-1972 Chevy

all 71-72s I've had were factory am only radio trucks and all have had telescoping antennas (except for the occasional obvious retrofits by a PO of a horrible rubber antenna or a completely missing antenna). Unfortunately, I can't confirm any of the telescoping antennas were original, but when it comes to useful data, quantity has a quality all its own...

Re: Poll - Your Radio Antenna for 1971-1972 Chevy

My 72 truck had the original AM radio when purchased in 98. A fixed antenna with a stock looking mount on cowl and spring in the mast. While I have an in-box NOS telescoping antenna in hand. Will be installing the reproduction fixed mast with the factory AM/FM I obtained years ago.
