Re: Pro Street anyone??

not sure what year the next truck I build will be I'll have to see whats out there but I plan on the pro street look with a min of a 454 under the hood and then slam the hell out of it so cutting the bed floor is no big deal 2" drop spindles and cupped LCA will lay the stock X hard...I noticed you guys area all running 5 lug wheels so I'll have to do something there I have a dana 60 (8 LUG) but since I do have some wide wheels I may go that route than slam some salt flats caps over all 4 and go for that look

nothing beats pulling up behind a set of gumbos hearing a little rumble from the tail pipes and maybe a litle second gear bark when they roll out of the light..gives me wood thinking about it!!

This might be an old idea,is there a coil-over set you can put in to get more tire clearance?

if you look back a coulpe pic you willsee he has done that already but i think the big issue is the stock frame....if you cut it then there's no limit...I want to be between the fender lip and frame so I can slam it since wheel wells will be a cut to fit the width there is my only limitation...but that would ba a good place to start is with a measure ment from frame to bed since it curves in slightly and with a slam that could be an issue without proper back spacing

hmmmmm??? need that # I guess before I get ahead of myself

Re: Pro Street anyone??

heres a couple pictures of the backhalf in my truck. I made it all myself from the crossmember back. it is a cpp crossmember that i filled the exhaust holes in. there is still alot of work to do and im re doing the rear suspension a little bit adding a wishbone and mounting tabs for a 9in instead of the 12 bolt i had in it.

Yes those are tail lights
hey 1968swbbigblock it looks like you have the best tire(tuck) clearance any chance you could sneak a peak straight up the wheel into the wheel well?? I like your set up!!! I would stick with 29" tires just to keep the tire profile the same as the front...just woundering if the 29x18.5's will clear or wether I should be shopping for the 29x15's...any thoughts??

and thanx this is something else I may work on with the truck I have now and then tranfer it to the next build...you always learn from the first one and the second you can make it better..

The only thing cut on mine is the bed floor and the widened tubs.

Re: Pro Street anyone??

hartrod do you think if you where c notched you could tuck your wheels up?? it could be the pic but it looks like your wheels are even with the fender lip?? I want to bag it so I need the clearance out there ..by the looks lof things you could have gone wider as long as it was with back space??

Re: Pro Street anyone??

Hottrucks - I will get you a picture =- I looked thru my existing photos and I do not have any like you want.
I will have to lay a straight edge up into the fender well to see how much additional drop I could go.
The back currently has a 5" drop.
I love the prostreet look and the sound.

Is there any rule it has to be a short wheel base? A Satin Black, slammed ProStock look would be sweet.

Re: Pro Street anyone??

thanx like I said I want to c notch it so I can all I can and keep the bed floor flat narrow but flat!!

I hope theres no rules because I hate paint!! to much work!! rhode island red oxide oh and I'm working on a lwb....

the look I want is old school, long, low, and flat the wide wheel tire combo on the back just brings it to the next level when I air up ... but a burn out with them tucked its just..... Kool... besides the hole big wheel thing isn't my style now wrinkles with 8 to 10 lbs of air yea baby

Re: Pro Street anyone??

ok guys I scored some 29x18.5x15 rubber now who has a set of rally wheels (6 lug) that are 12" wide stockton wants more for the rim then the tires!!!

someone please tell me these are going to fit my 70 LWB or do I have to measure the axle width......never mind it's 58" from plate to plate

Re: Pro Street anyone??

You may want to double check but I do not think they recommend a 18.5" tire onto a 12" rim - they will bow to much ie ride only on the center of the tread

Re: Pro Street anyone??

well here is my plan for today going to hit local race car shop to check on a piece of 6"X 44" then I'm going to see of I can get it rolled..the stock rally with my spare will become the victum...Once the rubber is stripped I'm going to clean the cut area so welding will be easier then mount it on the front of the truck...the truck will become my fixture.....wish I had one of those fancy plasma cutters but a wiz wheel will have to do for us poor people....by slowly spinning the wheel I will cut it about 1.5" from the center....

Once cut it I will get some short pieces of angle iron to hold the rim to the new width and get it close using a framing square ...then back to the fixture (truck) to try to true it up and get that piece of 6" rolled filler in...I think it could be a slow process kinda like body work so as to try to keep it as square and true as I can...If it works out at all then I will bubble balance the rim by adding weld where it's needed

Ok thats my dream..when done it should be a 14" rim that looks stock from the side

well just had a dumb idea need to check the width of stock car wheels??? hmmm might be easier to just cut the 4 welds holding the center in???...dam it!! I hate it when that happens....

Re: Pro Street anyone??

Don't do it, you'll kill yourself! You can get wheels widened (banded) by specialist companies (well you can here in the UK) and they have the proper precision gear to cut them true, weld in the band properly and keep them trued up. Just a millimeter or two out and it'll shake the truck to bits and probably kill you. Widening wheels is a job for the pro's.

here ya go. lots and lots of companies that widen wheels..... i got my 15x14 corvette rallys from http://www.wheelvintiques.com ... not sure if that was them or not... i know i used 15x14 w/ 10" bs corvette style rally and it worked perfect w/ stock frame etc.. (widened wheel tubs of course)

Re: Pro Street anyone??

ok for starters the only dif between a pro and a guy in the shop is one is getting paid so any and all work I do is done with the same care and safety...

QKen I called and @ $200 a wheel is out of my budget...Stockton wanted $192 new and $225 if they us my wheel go figure?? so heres where it stands..

I have searched the hell out of the internet and came up dry other than the fact that carlile makes the hoops(15x14) ..you may know them as Cragar..unfortunatly they won't sell them to me so me swapping centers is out so far...so back to plan A well off to the race car shop to see about getting that 6" flat stock and rolling it...well come to find out there is a plan C
I found a guy local that cuts race wheels and puts new halfs on steel race car wheels?? I guess they beat the bead lip off these things like crazy?? well I have a meeting with the old gent at the end of next week to size up whats going to happen next....from what is sounds like he has a jig to cut the wheels and keep them square while he welds them up......rumor has it that he get $75 or so from the race guys but being an old time rodder.. I'm hoping to roll up in the truck and make a new freind and maybe get a deal...
I pick up 4 more rallies with rings and caps this weekend so I'll have some to work with?? Maybe I will just weld 2 of them together and have a 16" wheel...lol!!

Jeff

thanx for the ok on the fit?? is my rear axle the same width as yours??? 58"

Re: Pro Street anyone??

well like all things tires have changed I went to talk to the guy who was "Holding" the tires for me and he gave me the I wasn't sure so I Ebayed them??" but sitting as coffee tables are a set of 31x16.5x15....a bit taller than I wanted but couldn't pass up the deal so now back to the rims...I'm going to freeze my lug nuts off and get a trailing arm to rim # to work with and take a rim to another shop to see what they can do...the first shop that does the work all the time for the race guys turned out to be a ...well never mind but he couldn't be bothered...
