Thanks! It was nice meeting you as well. How was the camping? It was a nice park that seemed to have alot to offer. The return trip went well, good weather, no tickets. We had a great weekend meeting everyone. Hope to get together soon.

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Camping was nice, they had a "night prowl" thing that night that a few of us went to. Drive back was long as hell though, had a pain keeping myself awake. Haha. We'll have to get together sometime and see if we can't get a few other Florida members to hang out as well.

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Progress been a little slow lately. Was able to get the brake and steering components installed. Now on to getting a rear fuel tank and route brake and fuel lines.

My truck came with fronts disks but no power booster so I just decided to purchase a kit that included everything (front/rear disks, master cylinder, booster, lines/hoses, drop spindles) and got the kit from Classic Performance Products (CPP).

I'm using a set I purchased from this forum. They are very nice with quality construction, Just can't wait to get it to a point to fire it up. Link to the thread for the headers is below.

No, Decided after listening to others to switch to the side fill option and I plan on locating a fuel door on the side of the bed like in late model vehicles. Below are pics from today on the setup of the tank.

Yes, the rear calipers are designed for E-brake. Don't plan on hooking it up at this time.

Thanks,

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Thanks! I'm also planning to install a flip door at this time, bought one from a wrecked S-10 with about 6" of bed material around it so plenty of area to work with (or trim away).... Altho i have no body and fender skills, just a mig and experiance with thick steel.. I may try the marker light fill first but havent decided. I will be watching your progress.

Thanks for the headsup, but I have painted it. I have purchased the kit of suspension paints from Eastwood and painted the springs, tierods, spindles, PS gearbox, rotors (w/high temp paint), etc... Again, thanks for looking closely. I know there are things may have overlooked.

Where did you end up buying the 2WD leaf bushings and bolts? I am also having a hard time finding them.

Hey ivanuf2,

The leaf bushings came installed in the springs and I re-used the two bushings that were in my shackles as they were in good shape. For the new U-bolts, I found this site: http://www.generalspringkc.com/

For the leaf spring bolts and torque nuts I ordered them from: http://www.boltdepot.com/

Hope it helps,
Justin

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Build update for last couple of weeks.

1. Mounted the fuel tank
2. Ran fuel & rear brake lines
3. Engine delivered to machine shop.
4. Heads/intake/throttle body getting stage 2 port job

This weekend, I plan on starting some body work on the cab and learning how to work the mig welder I picked up a harbor freight. I have to replace the cab corners and few patch areas. Will get some pics up during the effort.

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Nice clean work. Make sure you post some pictures of your body work. I have a new welder and a stack of new panels waiting to be welded, but I'm scared I'm gonna make a mess. My cab is not very bad and I would hate to destroy it.

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Well the build process has been in slow gear during the holidays. Have been working hard this week on the door disassembly (dang, the vent windows are a PITA to remove). Prepping to install the new inner door bottoms and door skins. Hope to get lots of body panels/mods done this spring. Pics to follow.

Thanks for looking,
Justin

Hey RC, Thanks for checking out the thread. I'm about to post pics of the door skin removals with inner bottom panel an skin installation to follow.

Also, Pineapple Willy's is still there. Surrounded by large condos now, but still putting out the good ribs.

Thank,
Justin

Pictures of the doors with the trouble areas and of the window channel before and after sandblasting. I have blasted and treated the channels with the same products that was used on the frame.

Re: 1st Project: 71 C10 SWB

Finally received short block from machine shop and heads, intake, and throttle body from porting. Hope to start the assembly REAL soon. Also, I have been doing body work on the doors. Progress kinda slow, learning to mig weld as I go.

Here are a few pics of the ported items. Port matched the intake to throttle body and heads. Stage 2 job on heads and smoothed the combustion chambers. I'll get more up shortly as the assembly and body work progresses.
