Re: 87 crew cab shortbed dually

i would use side saddle tanks but i dont think there is enough clearance to the ground without destroying the tanks when i drop it on the ground. plus i get more fuel in the 32 it might not be but 2 gallons but its works

Re: 87 crew cab shortbed dually

I thought the 'burb tanks were 40 gallons. I have one and it is too big to fit behind the rear axle on a short bed. Maybe they had different size tanks as options.
And I believe the short bed saddle tanks are 16 gallons each.

Re: 87 crew cab shortbed dually

ok my bad on te saddle tanks but i know the burb tank i had is 32 gallons filled it to many times.also im raiseing the floor so it gives me some extra room. ive heard of 40 gallon tanks but never seen one this is the fourth burb i ve had or been real close too. i had a 83 that had a 25 gallon tank.
i hadt checked my tank yet but im sure it will go under the short bed i mean its the same length i think as a blazer tank but i guess i will have to check tomorrow. if not i have a coule blazer tanks just have to clean it out real good an it will be alright

Re: 87 crew cab shortbed dually

Cool deal.
Do you mind getting the dimensions for the 32 gallon tank?
I think I have a 40 gallon, I'll measure it also.

Re: 87 crew cab shortbed dually

The suburbans did offer 3 different sized tanks, 25, 31 and 40 gallon. I never really understood the rhyme or reason. The 40 gallon changed between the 82-86 models, and the 87-91 models, I'm guessing maybe something with the fuel injection? The 82-88 31 gallon shows the same though, at least in my mitchell information. Seems the 40 gallon tank is RPO NE2, if that helps anyone anytime. Seems like the 31 gallon does appear the most common, at least in terms of availability for a used one.

Blazers have always pretty much had a 25 or 30 gallon option on the tanks. Makes me wonder if you could add a third tank to a truck... have a pair of 20's and a 31 all hiding underneath. Quik Trip would love seeing you pull in!

Re: 87 crew cab shortbed dually

if you could figure out a way to control where the fuel is comeing from with some sort of a selector you could run three tanks on there. but when all full you would have a small load on board an thanks for the info.

Re: 87 crew cab shortbed dually

Might finally be able to go over 350 miles on a fill up! For a daily driver type of truck, those 40 gallon tanks should be in high demand for those looking to do the swap.
