Re: Crew cab ??

Wow...
You really came through with the pics! You must have been waiting for a newbie like me to ask the question, lol. I really like the truck on post #26. That is perfect! Now my question is the rear doors... Do they use the stock size glass, and just remove the wing window portion? For some reason it looks like the glass might be bigger (maybe surburban glass?). Thanks for all the pics/inspiration/intimidation, lol!

Re: Crew cab ??

that #26 is norms truck, also same door as dinos, the door measures 32 1/8 long, and I don't know for sure, but think they might just be a 456 door cut down at the vent window...

Re: Crew cab ??

That nice truck in the last post shows the 456 door with the wing window cut out (the edge toward the B pillar is squared off vs. round). I wonder if the only difference between the two is how the metal was shaped. For all I know it still could have the same glass inside the channel. Great stuff jonzcustomshop .......PS with all this CC info, shouldn't you have one in the works?

Shouldn't you change your user title to 17 trucks and parting!

Re: Crew cab ??

^ haha new pics to save thanks aero!

some of the info i have gathered:
these were coach built.
you ordered your truck, and then 6 weeks later the coach builder delivered it.

some of the builders were stageway, crown, proctor -keefe.

they all approached the build differently.

pretty much all the "factory" crews I have seen piccs of were small back window-not every last one, but bbw was rare in this already rare truck!

the wheelbase was all over the board, but most common was just a stock 127 inch lwb with the bed cut back. some were also the 133 inch wb cab/chassis frame.
however norms (flat black 456) and a few others pictured were a lwb box, resulting in a 33 inch extension of the frame.

there is a nice tan 66 I have pictured in the thread that was a stageway with a 12 inch frame extension.

some (all?) of the stageways replaced the wood bed floor with a steel plate.

there are 2 different kinds of doors- the earlier 60-61's used a cut down 60-63 door, about 30 inches long, and retained the vent windows.
62^ or (just stageway?) used the 32 1/8 inch door with the square cut front.
most of the 456's seem to have this door as well..

a third door was in the mix, I have a green 61pictured with this cab, which used an almost full length door from a 60-61 -literature says it adds 36 inches to the cab.

some crews were a 3 door, and some a 4...

there are 2 different styles of roof skin.
one stays low all the way to the crown in the back.
the other meets the stock crown in the middle of the cab, and then is higher through the 2nd half of the cab.

I do not have many pics of the headliner, but from what I have seen , it looks like the metal headliner was removed, and portions of tin were installed around the perimeter , like a suburan.

Re: Crew cab ??

My preference is the rear door that follows the form of the front door with no filler in between. As for the interior I would prefer to use a complete door bottom and modify the top section to follow the front door. This would require reworking the rear door panel as not to retain the dip. Suicide the rear doors.
Headliner, could copy the rib design to the rear section as to the original front. A complete fleet short box with grafted stepside fenders, dually! Now burst my bubble!

Edited: And all the original accessories! LOL!

Re: Crew cab ??

Now this is a cool Crewcab truck! Just too bad they didn't use the '60-'63 doors on the rear, then it would have been perfect.

Re: Crew cab ??

Posting #11 truck at bottom and #19 The charcoal long bed is my dad's truck.

Leg room in the rear is very tight for a taller person, the seat is a stocker cut down.
