Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"

well ive been saving up and buyin parts and stock pileing them for the old blue goose the engine is still not assembled the block has been primed and the head has been painted chevy blue, when we slow down this winter we will get the engine assembled.

well i have worked som more on my bed pan cleaning and priming also built a nice bed stand out of old pallets from work

also ordered a bunch of my weather striping from brothers trucks while they were on sale i also ordered doors, a rear sway bar 1", door handles, tail lights alot of the small stuff i will need after paint

heres how my truck sits now i have learned that you should install sway bars before all your exhaust work is done this caused major issues when it comes to fittment

i will post pics of the bracket i made to compensate for the clearance problem soon...

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"

UPDATE: ive been working steady every night priming and painting parts some times up until 11 or 12 o'clock at nite
got my brake booster primed and painted (needs one more coat)

got my air cleaner cleaned up and repainted but i think i am gonna redo it in gloss black i used med. gloss black and it dosent look quite like i want it to

had to strip and refinish 3 of my wheels the paint cracked and looked horrable

primed my oil pan next im gonna check for leaks in the pan its self i learned my lesson last time i built an engine.

had to build custom drop down brackets for my rear sway bar it was hitting the bottem of the bed and i also couldnt drill the holes in the frame becouse my exhaust was in the way so i countersunk two bolts into a peice of angle iron and welded the heads flush and ground it down smooththe angle iron is for the passsenger side and it allows me to bolt the sway bar to the side of the frame insted of on the bottem of the frame. the drivers side had plenty of room to drill the holes.

this is my offenhauser intake and ceramic pace setter headers i am planning on painting my intake the same color as the engine.

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"

well I finally got my engine fully assembled we had an issue with the exhaust rocker arm washer on #6 (the half moon piece) it was completely worn out so we had to get a new arm and washer, now we are trying to mock up all our bracketry, we are currently looking a 292 power steering bracket from what I have read that will bolt up to my nonintegral head, but we may have to do further modifications to work with our headers I am not for sure yet. Everything bolts up different from the 67 block to the 79 block and it makes it really interesting when you are ordering parts should it be for a 67? or a 79? the shows on tv like gears and trucks never show you how much research and time it realy takes to do all the details of a project
But here is a pick of my 250 all painted up

My next project is to rebuild the front suspension, hopefully I will order the kit from PST this weekend, I took my wheels to a company in Burlington who does sand blasting and powder coating 70 bucks a wheel, i will be going to pick those up next Wednesday before class that night, I ended up buying 4 new Goodyear wrangler RT-S tires. I am almost done with my bed dolly and as soon as i can i will have my bed in the shop torn down, sanded and primed.

That's awesome. I want to buy set of front doors. Do you highly recommend brothers truck or LMC? By the way, how much would a door weight?

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"

i think the brothers doors are nice doors they are heavy and everything seems to line up good, in the brouthers catilog they claim they sell only the highist quality chevy truck parts and everything i ha ve bought from them i have been completly satisfied about, brothers is having there spring sale so you might want to check and see and see if the doors are on sale. good luck owner84

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"

I started modifying the intake for my 250 I was afraid that the transition from the q-jet tp the adapter to the intake would cause a lot of turbulence so i am cutting out the center and grinding down everything for a nice smooth transition.

And I finished welding up the uprights on my bed stand now I and going to have to find some plates to attach the dollies with, and build an adjustable middle

Re: 79 custom deluxe "blue goose"

a couple weeks ago I finished up on my spring landscaping job and I have been working on my 79 on Saturdays and I have been getting a lot done i have been really short on cash after buying an 01 s10 to be my daily driver and some tools from a man who retired that I worked with, but the progress continues on...

removed front clip to replace the engine and rebuild the front suspention

i also presure washed the engine bay

i laid out the parts in the bed and they are all labled (the smaller parts are boxed and bagged in the cab)

repaired the grill with this super strong appoxy i had

the last spot i have to repair i have a spare grill and i will make a patch to go here then the grill will get a warm sudsy bath a good scuffing and a fresh coat of paint

started claening and painting brackets and my hood hinges

i have been using eletrolisis to remove the rust out of the hard to reach places and it works realy well

my pst front end rebuild kit all i lack is the idler arm and pitman arm

and here is my 01 s-10 with a 4.3 and a five speed way to fast for me lol
