Well, I just finished making the long box into a short, what a joke- so easy. Check out the project thread and see it done.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

I have beem watching the frankenstein thread and it has given me the desire to build one , so I have listed my std cab and doors for sale or trade for a suburban ..... I'm gonna use a stock style frame for mine, I have porterbuilt suspension pieces. I have talked to Nate at porterbuilt about a 1-ton dually set up and he says he has the control arms for it. I am planning on L-S series engine and a 4L60e for a transmission. If I could photoshop I would like to see what a shortbed crue cab dually would look like as I have a short bed already .

I Love It!
I am using a new frame and powerplant so that I get great abs brakes, power rack and pinion and a host of other modern conveniences. One in particular that I am stoked about.

AWESOME!! I prefer the blue paint job pic....but that would be so cool to build. I hope you have a big garage or barn to put that thing in. My 72 long bed is snug in my garage as it is....that is a monster of a truck....wish I had room for one.

It will be 4 inches longer than a 2004 Silverado extra cab. 6 inches shorter than a Silverado Crew cab.
It'll fit in my shop easy.
The Blue pic is just a photoshop of the gold one. Mine will be the factory white-blue-white-blue two tone. I have a picture of that combo in the build thread.

OK, making the longbox into a short one was pretty easy!

Now the real hard part begins, mounting the 72 crew body and bed on the 2001 frame.

Drew, Just wondering how you're going to build your mounts? I installed a 72 body on a 02 Dodge frame (with a Cummins!) & it wasn't too tough. Kirk

Biscuit rubber mounts from new truck will sit on a flat plate welded to the frame. The old body mount bolts line up right over the frame in most places so it will be a perfect direct load path.

Re: 72 Crew Cab build thread

I love it, but every time I see that thing it leaves me thinking about selling my extra cab and going on a road trip. Maybe after I get the truck up and running that will happen.
