Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

Yes!, the early CV joint is very close to the pan. I just did a swap on a friends truck. I had to set the joint in place a couple of times to check clearance while dimpling (massaging) the pan with a ball peen hammer for clearance. The CV actually was scraping paint off the pan before hand. I had to sand some of the edges off the CV also.

This shoves the engine forward 3 inches and I worry about the extra stress on the tail housing with that long spacer. Its about $100.
Im confused because ORD has this adapter and it dont look 3 inches long. Am I missing something?

700R4 Spacer

This spacer is used to put a 700R4 in place of a TH350, or to put an NP203 or NP205 behind a 700R4.
If you're installing an NP203 behind a 700R4, you will need this spacer and a TH350 to NP203 adapter.
If you're installing an NP205 behind a 700R4, you will need this spacer, a TH350 to NP205 adapter and a 27 spline drive sleeve.

Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

What's the verdict on clearance with stock suspension?

I've got a BTO level II 700r4 w the AA NP205 shaft ready to be installed into my 72 K20 with stock HD springs. The motor mount was moved forward to accommodate the swap. In looking under my stock K10 the only possible conflict I can see is the proximity of the engine crossmember to the front differential.

BTO was great to work with. The owner had a 72 K20 and did the same swap.

Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

I used the AA shaft, stock Th350 to 205 adaptor and moved the trans crossmember back about 1 inch and enlarged the shifter hole. It all fit, worked and was easy. I do have a non-stock front driveshaft, the splines on both shafts had plenty of travel. I love the trans, went from 3300 RPM at 55 MPH to 1900 RPM at 55 MPH I am running this behind a 454 in a 6500# empty dually dump, I do not race this or go offroading with it, I know I could break the trans if I really tried hard enough but I have had the truck on the scales at 12,600 gross and it's been in there for 6 years with no problems.

Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

Just put it in with aa short shaft. It clears by a 1/16. Not enough. Looking at the 700r4 pan that corner is where the dipstick drops in and the valve body is a ways away. I am honestly planning on denting the pan slightly to open up the clearance to a half inch or so.

Fwiw I have 2.5 lift kit in front.
