...or 1/2" aluminum hard line....which is what I used...along with lots of those spendy little AN thingy's!

Steel, copper, and aluminum all would work for the street just fine. Just properly support them. Add a small section of hose from engine to chassis/body etc. Not needed from fuel pump to carb. Steel is probably the cheapest. However, some people like the look of copper (British cars in particular).....
