Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

Well after reading this thread and a few others Im starting to wonder if the set of "NOS" 71/72 cab lights I bought off the board are really NOS.

On top of the cap it says Signal Star 9069 Dot Sae pipc 71

On the bottom lip reading from the cover upside down it has these numbers
684662 240719 5

Any thoughts?

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

I have 2 sets in GM boxes with the number 684662 on the box. I would guess yours are correct CG.

I thought if they don't say "GUIDE" on them they aren't OEM. The originals on my truck say that anyways..

1968 Longhorn 396 400 power steering and AC and tool box truck with 8 1/2 foot bed 3/4 ton converting it to 1/2 ton with disc brakes and inline 6 250 with 700R4 should make a really nice truck

Well mine dont say guide, thats why I was questioning them. But they do seem to have all the right part numbers. Is your truck a 71/72?

Edit: I just saw in your sig you have a 70, maybe they are different?

They could be different. But I checked my side markers, taillights, reverse lights, and factory cab lenses (unless they were replaced by the original owner back in the 70s). They all say "GUIDE" on them. Maybe a different model of firemans cap used for 71/72?
Anyone have more input?

If your replacing the lights on a truck that have the pucks then you just need the lens and the GM rubber insulaters, these have a special socket built into them to hold the lamp holder and a boss on the bottom to seal into the cab.
I believe the cab lights used on the 67-68 trucks were made for GM by Yankee but there is a Grote model that is very close.

Are the ones shown in the bottom 3 pics correct for a 67? Does anyone have a source for these, I need a set for my Slant Back.

That looks like the kit sold by LMC, they use to sell it as a kit but now they sell it in individual peaces. I've bought several of them and the quallity is pretty good..the lens are correct but the rest of the parts are repo.

Those are the right style for the 67 68 trucks, LMC has them for 50 bucks for a set of 5 along with the wire harness, I've never bought that kind from them so cant say how well they are made.

The lights are definitely aftermarket. My off topic question is about that tool box on a '68. Was that bed swapped and someone did a good job modifying the trim,or what?

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

Tim, a couple of us noticed that, I already sent a PM yesterday or the day before asking for details. It wasn't supposed to be an option till 70... but if that's a custom job, then they wanted it bad with that 67/68 only trim on there.

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

I figured the bed was swapped and someone modified the 67/68 trim. That trim is easier to mod and I see it has face screws holding it on. I also sent him a PM and he confirmed the bed was swapped...different color underneath. It came out good. But,for the effort I would have used factory trim clips.

Figured I'd post the measurements from msgross for placement and the ones I took for the actual screw holes for info since this is almost a FAQ thread

Hey thanks for the measurement pics. I also have a set of the aftermarket teardrop lights. I actually like them a little better than the stock set I have because of the shiny parts LOL.

This is a pretty informative thread on cab lights. Does anyone know if clear roof light lenses are available for the firemans cap/hockey puck style bases?

Yes,the Stepside/StepVan/Stake Body reverse lenses are the same as hockey pucks, except they have a little drain hole that needs to be filled.

How do you run the wires on the inside of the cab? Do you have to cut the inside roof to get to the wires?

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

You don't cut the inner panel. You just need to fish the wire from hole to hole and down the windshield post. It helps to pull the visors.

I want to install some on my '73. When you say fish the wire, I'm assuming all the individual lights connect to one another and then run down the driver side windshield pillar, correct?

So the fireman hat ones are correct for 71-72? I bought a NOS set off of ebay and say GM approved and the GM number on the box is #999197. Are those the correct ones or do I need to keep looking?
