Nice score. What color was the exterior originally? Any pics of the Spid?

Thanks for the kudos everyone.

I just got a call from the owner of the salvage yard and he has the truck sitting out front for me. He as to get the title transferred over to his name and I go pick it up at 4pm. I know the SPID is there, I just forgot to get a picture of it. I will post more pictures of it tonight and keep everyone posted on progress on it... I think the color was originally Silver.

Re: They Are Still Out There...

He's not lucky! You don't find if you are not out there looking. No one ever delivered one of my finds to my front door and said "here....I thought you might like this".

I bought my truck parked along someone's house. Exact conversation was "is that truck for sale?" His reply was "well maybe if the price is right". The price was low but right for him!!!! Good Job Mr. Leon

Re: They Are Still Out There...

yeah, I sometimes take side roads and what not just to see what trucks people have around. I suppose if I started asking if it were for sale I could get a deal once in awhile.

I'm trying to get my mother-in-law to sell me her '92 GMC van. It has 4 bald/flat tires and hasn't been driven in months. I just want the engine and tranny and junk the rest.

Made it home with the truck this afternoon, with no problems. I'll add a few more pictures. I completely missed the Custom Camper emblems because of the weeds so it's a CST/Custom Camper. I put a battery in it after I checked the wiring out and everything on the truck worked except the headlights and radio. I traced the headlights down to the dimmer switch and replaced it, now everything works but the radio. I didn't want to try turning the engine over with the starter until I take the plugs out and squirt some joy juice in it... Passengers side rocker will need repaced somewhere down the road but the cab corners seem to be solid. It has the ram assist power steering and I thought that was '67 only, guess I misunderstood that. I'm very happy with the truck and it would be a great candidate for a stock restoration.

Oh, be sure and check out the hitch on the front...

Re: They Are Still Out There...

Very nice Leon! It definitely looks like it could have had a decebt sized camper in it by the looks of the bumper. Other than the krylon over haul and little rust, that should be considered a survivor for Iowa.

Re: They Are Still Out There...

I also thought ram assist was 67 only but maybe it isn't that simple. My 67 GMC C2500 has power steering on the SPID but the unit under the hood is not ram assist. Maybe certain assembly plants had old inventories to use up (in your case)? I suppose its possible the previous owner replaced the ram assist setup but they sure did a good job if thats the case.

Also, why are the buckets seats on your SPID, I thought they were standard on 67 and 68 CST's.

Very nice original truck! Please restore it original or to whatever floats your boat. How is it a salvage had one that complete laying in the weeds?. Seems like they are crushing all of them around here because they weigh som much. Congrats!

Get rid of that huge bumper and she might sit a little higher, that's quite a bumper!

The guy that owns this yard doesn't crush anything old. You should see this place! I could probably take pictures for days and not get it all. The owner said that different people had tried to buy parts off of this truck but he would only sell it complete.

Re: They Are Still Out There...

Good score! Maybe I'm getting delusional cuz I kinda like that giant bumper. I was just thinking the other day about how many trucks I know of within a few miles that are in good shape and dirt cheap... I counted 25 off the top of my head that are in the same shape as this truck or better, mostly longbeds and a Longhorn, Blazers, Subs, etc. that could probably be picked up for $1000 or less. They are out there, just come out west. B.T.W. - What is this "rust" thing you back east guys speak of?
