Re: Glasspack help.

I have been doing some research and still having trouble. If I want loud, go with 12" cherry bomb glasspack. But if I want a deep throaty noise, go with a little bit longer glasspack. I know I keep having questions, but I need answers so I don't make a purchase and then regret it. I have factory ram horns, true dual exhaust, and 2.5" pipes. I just need to know the size (length) of cherry bomb glasspack I need for a really loud and deep throaty noise. Also where the best place to get them.

Thanks,
Wyatt

Re: Glasspack help.

Wyatt, when I first bought my 3rd truck, it had long tube headers and glass packs that from memory are about 20" long. This setup was VERY loud. Wakeup the neighbors loud. Set off car alarms inside the parking garage on the 10th, 8th, 5th and 2nd....just by entering the garage on the first. Hilarity. I got thumbs up from everyone...it sounded great. But was impossible to ake phone calls

Then when I bagged my truck, it needed shorty headers to clear the frame rail, as I lay frame. I got Sanderson shorty headers, intermediate tubes into the glass packs. It is much quieter, but still hot rod sounding, and I can make calls....and I still set off alarms. It is a stout 350. But not obnoxious.

Re: Glasspack help.

I think you'll really like a 20-24 inch glass pack. When you install it, the closer you get them to the engine the more mellow/deep the sound will be. But the great thing about glass packs is they quiet down when cruising and get loud when you put you foot down.

You can also check out YouTube for videos of different setups.

Re: Glasspack help.

Just bought the summit racing street and strip mufflers which are flowmaster 40 in disguise. Slid them on since I had straight pipes. Sound amazing and still have a loud romp to them. 29.95 a piece ain't bad

Re: Glasspack help.

or to get a glasspack to sound really good. take a garden hose up the pipe then start the truck. (after hose is out) that'll blow out all the fiberglass.also they get louder the longer they're on the truck. kinda quiet for the first week or so.. then after they "break in" they sound gooder

i personally have glasspacks AND cutouts

Re: Glasspack help.

Thrush Glasspacks from Autozone. If you want loud, add horsepower and compression. Flowmaster 40's with 3 inch on my 12.5 to 1 compression Monte and it is LOUD.

Re: Glasspack help.

If you want really loud and a deep throaty tone, get the cherry bomb exreme single chambers. The dynomax bullets sound good too, but i havent heard them on a stock engine, everything i have seen them on has been cammed and had headers and whatever else. My 71 has the extreme cherry bombs, with 2 1/4" (i need 2 1/2) exhaust and it is loud! You can hear me coming from 2 miles away when i am on it. My camaro has an off road 3" y pipe, single 3" exhaust to a dynomax bullet dumped at the rear end, and it is loud too. But both of those vehicles are cammed with headers and other goodies...
