Re: Hogging the parts boards

Another large forum I'm on called the hamb has a rule in the classifieds about the three day bump rule, and youd be surprised how well people follow it. It's not like there is a 50 page rules handbook on posting in the classifieds, it's a simple rule and if people are aware of it they will follow it. It's nature for people to follow the rules so they don't get in trouble, so I'd bet it wouldn't have to be policed too much.

Re: Hogging the parts boards

W/O rules, we would have chaos. What would the roads be like w/o stop signs, and redlights. Allows all involved to know who has the right of way....

Anyway, i havnt seen Churchill log in lately to sell any parts

One more simple rule could not destroy the forum

Put it up for poll,jmho

Re: Hogging the parts boards

Probably could send all members a pm stating the new rule, and make it a noticeable rule to new members when they sign up and become paid members.

I have no problem with a new little rule - but I'd submit that this thread alone has already accomplished the mission.

I doubt this thread is the cause of whatever happened - the discussion on this thread pertains to the parts board only I believe. Kids n Trucks would be on the actual discussion forum side of the house.

Re: Hogging the parts boards

It seems to me a 3 day bump rule would only serve to restrict someone from hogging the 1st page to every 3 days. It's up to individuals to acknowledge and act accordingly to the fact that they're not the center of the universe, that they are sharing this sight with thousands of others. Many of who have the same needs. With a 3 day rule there's still nothing to stop a member from posting several consecutive listings taking up a selfish portion of the first page, then bring that cluster back every three days.
There is a zone between total kaos with no rules and a police state,or even just over-regulation...which there is far too much of today. Stopping at stop signs is an obviously necessary law. I think a law that says you can't carry your dog in the bed of your truck is an unnecessary law.

Re: Hogging the parts boards

A 3 day rule wouldn't bother me.
I figure if its not getting brought back to the top by someone else it was priced too high or nobody needs one right now & their search will bring it up when they do need it.

Re: Hogging the parts boards

The way the parts board moves, even bringing something to the top only keeps it on the first page for short part of a day. In one day a thread ends up back 3 pages, that's 9 pages in three days. I think you all are barking up the wrong tree. I don't care if we make a 3 day rule, but I think that's not the problem. The hogging part is taking up a large portion of the first page with several listings. As Liz suggested, try to combine items in one thread when possible. That's just a suggestion and only solves part of the problem. Someone can still list several things in a thread and have several threads. If there has to be a rule due to folks not being able to simple have respect for others, what would be more effective would be a rule that doesn't allow several consecutive threads posted a minute or two apart. I never list more than a couple things at a time, and when I do,I'll post one, look around the site, then post the other before I leave the site. It's that simple. Within a 1/2 hour the first thread is usually down a few threads, unless someone has responded already. Then,I just concentrate on that one. If you're selling something you should be coming on the site every day to check status on your sale thread. So,you can also alternate posting one thing a day,if you have several items, and bring them back every few days...without another rule. It's common sense and common consideration. Both are things you can't mandate and both things we need more of in this world. It seems the more we rely on rules for every little thing, the less of both we use.

The forum is designed to be a forum. Adding a classified section would take all of the issues associated with all of the ad categories and roll them into a classified ad section - that operated the way an ad section should.

It's very simple, so I guess my question is: Why do you (the board, members, admins) keep trying to use the forum for classifieds?
saa.
We did, and had to revert due to the amount of folk pissed as heck over the change. We attempted to keep it as it was; but the members did not like it.
