Does anyone know if you have to do any firewall or floor mods to make the 6.2 and 6L80E fit in this truck?

anybody here ever put a 62 dash in a 65? I really like the looks of a 62 dash better than the 65

Here in Columbia, SC I know a guy who has a set of FIBERGLASS "wider than normal" rear stepside fenders and they are for sale. I can get his phone number to you by PM. One of the fenders has a split along the bottom but I would guess that it could be easily repaired. I'll help any way I can if you are interested. Nice truck and tanks for the nice pics!

Thanks but I want to keep all the original sheet metal.

One could make a slice along the crease near the top of the fender then pull the wheel opening out 2" then fill in the gap. So instead of the crease being the widest part the lower section would be.

Then there would be no reason to mess with the step and you would have a wider fender.

6.2 fits in....but You have to cut a big tunnel to get the tranny in....depending on how low you want to get it to go. But if i get where your going and depending what you have for a floor hump it's a pretty big cut.

Well now that the holidays are over finally making some progress. Borrowed some wheels to mock up the rear and see what I'm going to have to do to get these big ass tires to fit (305/50/20's). I spaced the rear fenders out 2" and I think thats going to do it, along with narrowing the fender lip about 1/2". I was worried it might look funny, but I like it, I like the way the bed is the same width as the cab now, I only moved the bottom of the fender out about 1 3/8 so the step is not as severely misaligned, got an idea how I'm going to fix that. Its also going to be a challenge getting it as low as I want with 32" tall tires.

So far I've found 2 small rust holes on the front of the hood and a little rust on the drivers side vertical drip rail. Zero rust in the floors,rockers or cab!! Started welding the seam up in the hood and working on all the gaps, trying to get them as perfect as possible.

little more progress, got the 62 dash installed, I grafted the 65 dash ends on to the 62 dash, came out real nice I think, and was pretty easy

Looks great! The dash will be one of those mods that many won't notice, but those who do will fully appreciate. I did the same with another car I built, and it's interesting to watch people do a double-take at car shows.

Your not going to enjoy the trans fitment. A 4L80 is a really tight fit and the 6L80 is going to need the trans tunnel enlarged. Love the wheels you picked out and should be a killer truck when your done! Mast performance up their in your neck of the woods has some nice cam kits for those motors too!

The Porterbuilt suspension package may give you better handling around corners compared to anything else. I hope to have mine up and driving this summer. Good luck and keep up the good work!

thanks! I know a couple of guys that work at Mast, they took me on a little tour through the place a few weeks ago and I bought a cam kit while I was there. They have a very impressive set up. What part of Texas are you in?

Two questions for you:
How did you mod up the step to account for the 2" spacer you did on the rear fenders, and could you post up a photo of that please?
I think this is an interesting mod, and seems like it would be fairly easy to accomodate, the step being my only question point....

What did you use for those exhaust outlets?
I am also very interested in that mod as well !!

the chrome tips are off a 2012 Chrysler 300, I will bolt them to the fender and the exhaust pipe will just go inside it ,should be easier than trying to get a tip to fit perfectly in the fender hole, and also give it some room to move around a little. I haven't done the step mod yet but heres a drawing of my plan. this would a top view looking down at the step. I have an old step I'm going to experiment with.
