If you do decide to do Sport mirrors, I think a Chevy bowtie would look really good about half way between the pivot point and the top of the mirror. Or maybe the GMC letters.

I checked out your website...I'm In! Nice work.
They are all sweet, tough choice. When looking at them side by side in your website, #1 seems to look a little beefier, but probably not. My pick is #1.
Look forward to seeing one or all of them mounted on a truck. What method are you using to mount the glass mirror into the housing? What sell price target are you wanting to achieve?

The glass will be adhered with RTV silicone per the recommendation of multiple automotive glass shops. I'm still working on getting pricing on all the parts, so that info is TBD.

Cool idea but using the chevy bowtie logo would require licensing.

Ya, I didn't think about licensing. I was thinking about engraving and re-chroming my mirrors just to have the chevy bowtie on them.

I wish I could give you an approximate timeframe, but I'm unable at this point. I started this post in the early stages because I wanted to share the entire process with you guys. I'm also at the mercy of the foundry I'm working with. This is a new relationship and I need to be respectful and not push them too much. So just hang on and soon enough I think I will be able to give you a good idea of timing.

I have a little update mainly on timing for those interested. The prototype I should have in my hands in 1-2 weeks. Its then going to take 3-4 weeks to make the moulds, and then another 3-4 weeks to make the actual castings. I'll keep you updated with more detailed timing as we progress along.

The process to make the prototype is pretty interesting, so I thought I'd share. The slug or pattern of the mirror that will be casted for the prototype is going to be 3d printed. If you don't know what 3d printing is, think of it as an inkjet printer, but instead of ink, the print spits out plastic from a spool (think weed wacker trimmer line) that is heated like a glue gun. What results is a 3 dimensional, plastic copy of the mirror. Then this plastic pattern is used to cast the prototype. I thought that was pretty cool since casting originated sometime around 3,000 BC and now we are using modern technology to compliment it. Sorry…got a little geeky there!

Have a good rest of your weekend. I think I'm going to get out in the garage and "tinker" as my wife puts it.

Progress! I received photos of the prototype pattern today from the foundry. This will be used to form the impression in the sand, which will be happening tomorrow. They used a type of polyurethane for this pattern which was machined from my design file.

This is the inside which will be behind the glass (not seen)
