Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
It's been a little while since I have posted some updates! We are busy getting ready to attend SEMA next week, but I am going to try and update you on our current project!
We have been working on the body work and a little fabrication along the way. We want to keep the "stock" look of this truck as much as possible, while still incorporating modern touches to make this truck an awesome driver. Stock tubs removed: Checking for tire clearance...and it turns out we have PLENTY with only widening the tub by an inch or so: And back to more boring stuff...body work. This is literally the only bit of rust that is on the truck...driver side door: Working on the hood: We are relocating the tank to the rear of the truck, so that left us with deciding what to do with the fuel door. We didn't want it to be in the bed like most others do because I didn't want to have to put the tailgate down every time I wanted to fill up (yes, I am kind of lazy). I wanted to keep the factory gas cap on the cab because I love the way it looks, but obviously it will be cosmetic only. Bob came up with a cool idea that we loved because it will keep the stock look of the truck and won't appear that we have two gas caps: It's just the rear sidemarker light when it's closed, but when it's open: Fuel door! The next piece we needed to take care of was the route of the filler neck. By putting the fuel door here, it basically takes a 90* turn straight down due to the bedside. This would make it a huge PITA to fill up because you would have to pump so slow in order for it to not back up and want to spit fuel back out at you. So we fabbed a pipe that takes the 90* angle out of it which will allow fuel to flow normally: We went with Forgeline DE3C wheels, 19s up front and 20s in the back. The finish is titanium centers with brushed outers...I LOVE how they came out. I think they are perfect! A little dirty in this pic: Now that we had the wheels, we needed to work on the front tubs. We wanted to keep the coverage to a minimum because we didn't want to hide the badass suspension pieces. Once again, Bob is working his magic and they are coming out awesome: For those of you that aren't familiar, there is a ton of empty space along the inner fender of these trucks. He took time to fill in a lot of the space to make it look like the tub is supposed to be there. It's going to look killer! The bed is just about ready for paint as well as the two doors, but I won't bore you with primer pictures. We did decide on Viper GTS Blue/Arctic White as the colors. Of course, we will be putting our own twist on the color. We are going to hit it hard once we get back from SEMA, so I should have more frequent updates. Here is a fun one to leave you with for now: |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Such a cool truck.
Any chance when you repaint it you will paint below the lower trim white? This would be the correct tu-tone paint scheme for the 69-70 c10's. Like this truck,...

I can only imagine how much fun that ride will be once it's done.

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Keith, I do like that truck, but with our truck having the trim on both the upper and lower portion, I think it would look better keeping the white on the top and middle.

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Love it. The last picture you posted, is that anticipated ride height? I was expecting it to be lower with the suspension you have. Of course, I am going off the orange and white one that RS built. Going to be an awesome truck!
Thanks for posting updates Lydia!

But we have quite a bit of adjustment with the double adjustable Penskes so, trust me, this truck will be low, lower than in the pictures for just driving around. You can see from how the front wheels are set in so far, we can also go lock to lock this low without a single issue. We will probably space them out an inch or so just because I don't like how far in they are set. |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Haven't updated in a while!
One thing we decided to do was to eliminate all the vents from the cowl panel, just to make it look a little cleaner. Working on it: LydiasC1012052014_1 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr LydiasC1012052014_2 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr We also still needed to box in the frame. You should have seen us rolling this thing up onto the frame machine...you would think these truck frames would be super sturdy, but they are very flimsy. I was surprised. Glad we decided to do this. When we started: LydiasC1012202014_1 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr LydiasC1012202014_2 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr LydiasC1012202014_4 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr LydiasC1012202014_5 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr LydiasC1012202014_6 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr Wheels off and working on leveling up the frame before we start welding: LydiasC1012202014_8 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr LydiasC1012202014_9 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr Once the frame was all boxed in, we sent it off (as well as the suspension) to powdercoat. I chose a custom color for the suspension pieces just to help them stand out a little: LydiasC1001162015_6 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr LydiasC1001162015_7 by americanbodyworks1, on Flickr What do you think so far? |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Beautiful truck. While going through your pics it looked like the original color might have been light blue from the looks of the engine bay, or was that the camera angle? Can't wait to see the finished rig.
cheers

We are repainting the entire truck as well (I work at a body shop) and keeping it blue/white, just going with a much nicer blue. |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
I like the color you picked. Mine/daughters 72' original color was light blue / white. When I bought it from my friend it was primer gray and I let her choose what color she wanted. She decided on a bright blue, so I decided on a vehicle wrap instead of paint since when the truck is mine again I can go back and paint the original colors of light blue / white. Of course this will be a in a couple of years and a new money tree will have to be planted
