I forgot to mention that the 52 was the one I bought from world famous Rob Hartley (aka HartRod) in pieces quite a few years ago. Rob loves it now!

Re: What a ride!

Sorry to hear about your trans issues. Hopefully they can get you fixed up and it's something simple! I've ridden in a duck a few times and it makes me want to get one everytime I'm in one. Tell your wife congrats on the show placement! I'm sure it helped boost her morale!

Re: What a ride!

Love the burb man! Wish I would have known you was coming through NOLA/Baton Rouge with it we could have hooked up. We were gonna catch the power tour in Memphis but work got in the way I'll try to hit the last leg from Biloxi. I will be at the finish line cause it's 5 miles from my house. Hope you get the bugs worked out and hope to see you at Lamar Dixon..

Re: What a ride!

Congrats on the purchase. I love my Suburbans.

BTW, flywheels don't set transmission codes.

Re: What a ride!

At dinner Monday night we were still stranded in the hotel on foot when our buddy tells me he is brining his shop truck to dinner and letting us use it until the burb is fixed. Had a great dinner with them and enjoyed our time together. We told many hot rod stories and laughed a lot!

During dinner my buddy from Houston calls to check up on us as he is following my wife's posts on Facebook and tells us that he has set up a private tour at the Snap On factory and training facility in Conway Ark where we are stranded.

Tuesday morning we got to snap on early and saw the latest balances, and alignment equipment being built and got to see some of the head trainers very cool hot rods. They were Fords but we had fun joking about who was better chevy or ford.

The trans shop called to tell us it wasn't the flywheel making noise and they were going into the trans so get comfortable for a few more hours.

The wife and I went to see that new movie "Spy" and it was hilarious!

So we got bad on the road about 2pm on Tuesday. The trans needed a new input shaft bearing and a couple of different bolts. The trans guys were very nice and easy to deal with. They let me go back and look as many times as I liked and also tighten up some bolts that were working loose. We then returned the shop truck to my buddy and hit the road. Everything was going great until............

Two hours toward Memphis we hit a very large bump on the interstate and the truck died at 75 mph. We coasted to the side of the road and tried to restart her. No luck..semis. Lowing by at 75 and 96 degree temps Made the diagnosis difficult. No fuel pressure because no power to the electric fuel pump. And to top it all off the battery decided to die right then.

I walked a mile and a half back down the interstate and went to a truck stop and proceeded to bribe a guy to come back with me and jump the truck. We got it running and I made it to a Walmart to get fuses and a new battery. We blew 3 more fuses in the next half hour but limped her into the hotel for the night where we met up with a group of friends coming up from New Orleans.

Worked on the truck until 1am in the cool evening air and met some fellow power tour people who help me as well. Great group. Got her rolling to Birmingham now and so far so good.

I will post some pics in a few hours.

Re: What a ride!

Glad you are back on the road, hope that continues to be the case.
Did you find what was causing the fuses to blow?

Found a small spot on the hot wire insulation that had rubbed itself off right where it met the frame rail. When we hit big bumps it would bounce down and touch the frame rail. We have been ok for the last day and a half!

Re: What a ride!

We had an uneventful ride to Birmingham (finally) and had a good time at the event location. We are car number 3473 and that was preregistered two months ago. Memphis had over 6000 classics running around.

Got to stay at a good friends house for the night and had a great time.

Rolled out early this morning to meet up with the crew and we are headed to Gulfport ms today. We stopped for gas at a little station and flooded the place with hotrods. The photo guy from hot rod pulled in behind us and was trying to stage up a picture. Funny as hell it was like hearing cats. I got the heck out of there as it was full on confusion by many.

People are lining the streets in many of these little towns we are going through and either taking pictures or video. Very cool seeing cars and trucks you hardly see passing you on the interstate or following on the two lanes.

Re: What a ride!

What an adventure! Sounds like some of the trips I have taken. It sucks things went wrong but that is sometimes part of the journey. At least you had help along the way and learned a lot about the new ride. It seems bad at the time but makes for interesting conversation and great memories. Good luck with the cool new ride.
