Thanks fellas!

The wife changed her mind Tim so I don't have to sell anything...She couldn't get the Mantis started yesterday......Happy, Happy.

I have a couple of things in mind for this one Rob. We'll see what transpires.

Weeds are growing like ...........um, really vigorous weeds this year, ey? Good thing for you. You should be able to stretch it out at least another few months till the garden gets turned under.... unless you fixed the Mantis so she can start it (but you're smarter than that, right?)

That sure is a nice rig, I'm surprised he let it go. Definitely in good hands though.

Well, I removed the SM465 today and got the bell housing all cleaned up in anticipation of installing the NV4500 5 speed. I need to get the trans and bell housing mated up so everything will be ready to go when I am ready to install it. I will try to post pictures of the process as I go...

First pic is the old trans. Second is the bell housing and the other two are the NV4500.LockDoc

Tell me more about this NV4500 Transmission you are using and what it came in as it may be something for me to consider some time down the road in my one ton.

I'm looking for one of them SM465... Any chance you want to take a vacation in Florida, I have a room I would be happy to rent for one
But then again I need a bellhousing also.

The C30 is awesome!

This one came out of a '93 - '95 Chevy truck so it is one of the lower geared first gear, transmissions. I wanted the lower first gear for this truck. There is quite a bit of info on here about them if you type NV4500 into the Google search box above, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com and click on the "Google" button a lot of threads will come up.... There are some errors in some of the info because too many people just cut and paste information from one thread to another without verifying any of it. That is why I want to post a step by step on my installation.

I wish you were closer. The bell housing has the 5 1/8" locator hole for the SM465 bearing retainer, so if you buy one make sure it has that size hole because there are two different sizes....

I have a nephew in Winter Haven, a Niece in Palm Bay/Melborne area, and a brother in Albany, GA....

what shift lever is that on the NV4500. The only one I've seen with those are fat at the bottom and yaper. Yours looks like an old lever, like what came in the truck

Congrats on a "real" truck Leon! Good looking truck!
With the new tranny will you have to change the length of your driveshaft?
I think those SM465's must be as heavy as the engine. It's no wonder they call them "rock-crushers", although I think you could climb trees with first gear!

Re: Fulfilling One Of My Truck Dreams

And I think SC puts a peach on their tag. I grew up with tasty peaches in the orchard right here in MD. I guess one claims the most, another the biggest, the other the peachiest, one has the sweetest, other one has the fuzziest, and one must have the most. I tell you what, I love peaches no matter where they come from and as long as they're picked ripe, they are all good

I remember as a kid in Virginia going to an orchard with my grandparents to buy peaches. I was always given one to eat out-of-hand, but I had to stand outside the car. They didn't want any peach juice on the mohair in the back seat. Can't say I blamed them, the things were as big as softballs. I loved the peach, but didn't like the fuzz. Maybe Virginia claimed "The Fuzziest".

Yes, I still have it. I didn't get to work on it all winter and I am in the process of finishing up the wood in the bed right now.....

As far as I know it's the stock lever, it screws on to the short piece on the shift tower. It does taper, it's just real gradual. It doesn't look too much different than the original SM465 lever.

My brother lives in southern Georgia so I have had my share of Georgia peaches and I prefer the Missouri peaches hands down. They have a much better flavor.

Yep, I know that. Don't get me wrong, I still eat Georgia peaches and I always bring some home when I am down there and they are ripe. They usually ripen about a month before the Missouri peaches.

Thanks guys,

Yes, I will have to shorten the shaft. I don't know what that thing weighs but I can tell you it's all I wanted to do to get it out of there by myself.... The NV4500 that I'm putting in also has a "Granny low" gear but it also has the 5th gear "overdrive". The best of both worlds...

I've dealt with these transmissions in a '92 and a '95, which are the same, and the level screws in as you describe. But, the levers were fat, like 1 1/4" at the bottom. Maybe it's the difference between 2wd and 4wd. Both were 4wd I dealt with. I like that there is a lever that looks more like the original 4spds in these trucks. The '92 had a good old tried and true round ball of a shift knob. The '95 had a more modern newfangled ergonomatical-like shape.

As far as the best peaches goes, Maryland has the best. It's just well known for so many other great things they let other states claim the peaches. The state is too small to put all the icons on the map on a post card as it is . I guess the crabs get top billing. I remember coming home from living in AZ at my friend's old farm house. He plucked the Silver Queen from the stalk, crabs from the bay, and daquiries made with peaches off his trees. I think the rum came from some dump in the Carribean.
SC claims to be "The tastier peach state" and produced more peaches than any other state at one time. Now they are #2 behind CA. Missouri and Maryland aren't in the top producing states, but that's quantity not quality. Like I said, I like any peach that's juicy and sweet. The best peach in the world is a ripe one. The trick is finding one

Thanks!

I am going to start a new thread on the NV4500 install to make it easier to follow. I will post a link in this thread when I get the install thread started...
