There is nothing new about a GV other than the adapters offered. They are an old design borrowed from Europe. I cant remember the letter series but research lyshum (sp) over drive and you will find what I am talking about. From memory it was a 70s Volvo or Jaguar J or P type OD unit. Fairly common across the pond. Supposedly the original GV units still had the Lyshum tag on it. Spend some time on Google researching before dropping your coin. Has someone else said don't back up using it and the GV locks it out in lower gears. Not to back into the automatic part of the thread but the GV has a similar setup in it and will cook itself at low speed/RPMs.

I don't know anything about trucks other than what I have encountered personally, through sharing experiences with others, as well as what the old farts taught me. I'm learning here now, as well, with no plans to stop.

I messed up the company name. Lysholm was super charger company and Laycock made the OD units. Happy googling.

I drive both not to mention that you asked about a transmission whose main application was behind diesels. There is also a diesel swap section on this board with a ton of guys running mostly Cummins swapped into our trucks. So with that in mind my statement stays the same that 450 ftlbs really is not a lot of power. I personally put double that through a NV4500 for years. Not to mention you are the one who talked about towing so I just threw in my personnel experience. Most of what I know about GV came from the diesel world. Look at my screen name and you should be able to figure out my fascination with diesels even though I still enjoy 7k RPM shifts of a gasser. Yes my daily driver does that and has for the last few years.

Yes because we can clean the transmission prior to rebuild.

I like changing gears, the first car I learned to drive was a stick, I like driving my 72 (5.3L, 4:10, 1996 NV-4500) but I 90% of the time (when I am not towing anything) I wish I had put an automatic instead.
