Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

Hmmm. Maybe I missed it but did you pull any of the engine apart before putting it together? How long had it been sitting before you installed it?

You did check to see there is the shaft between the oil pump and the distributer?

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

I'm not sure how long it had been sitting only thing I did was put a intake manifold and exterior parts.there is a shaft in between I put in when I install a new pump

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

Is this no oil pressure issue again with a drill and a priming tool?

I'm wondering if the plug below the rear main cap got left out?

I agree, pull it and disassemble 100% at this point. You'll be in it for a set of gaskets at this point but you will be able to check the bearings and all the plugs also.

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

You have checked the pump out of the engine and it works, right? Then reinstalled pump in engine and spun it and no pressure, right? Next thing I'd do is remove oil filter, spin pump to see if oil flows that far. Have you removed valve covers to see if oil flows that far, do both sides? You either have a blocked oil galley or an open oil galley.

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

I'm thinking open or blocked galley to. more leaning toward open. nothing is coming up in the valve covers. I did notice a few gurgles in the nylon oil line to the gauge. ive replace the filter twice. first time was a fram second one was a AC delco. I'm going to pull the motor today and check behind the timing chain for the plugs and under the rear main cap.

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

You are spinning the pump in the correct direction? Again, you checked the oil pressure releif valve in the oil filter mount? Hate to have you go to a lot of work for something simple.

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

You should be able to see the pressure relief valve by removing he oil filter.

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

The check valve behind the oil filter is a filter bypass valve. The pressure relief valve is built in the oil pump.

pulled the motor and the timing chain cover and the galley plugs are still intact behind the timing chain. tonight I'm going to drain the oil and check the cap that's suppose to be behind the rear main cap

Re: crate 350 no oil pressure

No!!!!! Now we gotta know!!!!
If you have the pump out sit it down in the oil you drained from the engine. It is a positive displacement pump so you can turn it by hand and it will move liquid. If it moves liquid put your thumb over the outlet and rotate the pump, liquid should push you thump up off the outlet to relieve the pressure, if it doesn't, look at the relief valve, take it out, make sure the valve moves freely in the bore. If all looks and acts good, reassemble. Next try blowing air in the oil galley from the pump end, you should get air exiting from the filter mount(filter off), no air, it's blocked, use a piece of copper wire and find blockage. Got air at that point, then it's on to the galleys that run across the back of the block and here it gets more complicated as the oil flow starts to get divided up going several directions. I'd take out galley plugs one at a time, blow air through block, get air, replace plug, progress to next plug until you get no air, look for blockage there. Come on man, don't give up now.
Last resort, crate that engine up to me and I'll look for it at no cost to you except freight back and forth. But never give up!
