Re: Cam selection and other questions

Unless you change the gears in both your differentials to 3.73 or 4.10's, in my opinion that Blueprint engine will not really perform as you need it to plowing snow and using your truck as a truck. If you want to keep your 3.07 gears this engine.

or this engine would be much better suited IMO.

Personally I would go with the stock L31 Vortec 350 and if you feel you need more power than that, upgrade the cam to this one.

If you go a step farther and add 1.6 rockers, you will be close to 350hp and 400 ftlbs all in an rpm range where you need it.

I have to fully agree with the above, the L31 is a hard motor to beat for two reasons. One is price, period! Two is the roller cam with the best flowing factory heads GM has probably ever bolted to a small block. If your going for bang for your buck the GM performance L31 is really the only alternative. Nothing wrong with pushing snow with 3:07 gears, "if" your pushing with a small tire big block truck. I've been running/working a rebuilt 350, much the same as yours, I didn't touch the lower end just added this Lunati cam and lifter set, 10120701LK with a Edelbrock 2101 Performer intake. A set of long tubes and a 3:73 Positrac behind a heavy duty 350 turbo. It's been pulling 7000+ pounds of loaded trailer for well over three years now with only one transmission failure and that was when it wasn't pulling anything at all. The motor has well over 30,000 miles on it and is still pulling strong, lots of low end grunt to pull another 72 C/10 to shows and drag strips and at 3000 rpm she pulls that 7000 lb trailer right past the loaded late model big blocks on the long inclines. Never mind the mileage because at 70 mph pulling that load @ 3000+ rpm that motors delivering power not mileage. I've always said, If your worried about mileage then your driving the wrong year of truck. I run Quadrajets on both my trucks, unloaded I can squeeze out 10 -12 mpg, loaded on the interstate rolling at 70, dont ask! ~Ghostrider's $0.02~ Actually I guess that was a nickles worth?
