Re: Chrome 71-72 bumper guards difference in old & new

Special-k,

The GM rib designed impact strips that you have do they have
Molded part #'s on them. The ones I have, have a molded part #. Do yours?

Re: Chrome 71-72 bumper guards difference in old & new

I don't have those any more. I dug them out and sold them back when the economy tanked.

But, I think we've opened up to some new knowledge as a result of all this. That set you showed has GM copyright 1971 on the instructions, so they're GM. Those are not like the ones I bought or DadheadNM has (which are the same). I knew both ribbed and smooth came from GM from my own experiences and now I believe the scooped out stampings can also be GM. I think yours are same as those pictures with instructions. There are others out there I am sure GM never sold, like the ones that are not scooped out, yet have a vague profile of the bumper. I've seen others that look different from any of these I am sure GM never sold. There seems to be at least 3 varieties for sure...smooth or ribbed thick ones and ribbed scooped out ones

Re: Chrome 71-72 bumper guards difference in old & new

These are the bumper guards I found in Conroe,Tx at a swap meet. These had a part number stamped on them, one had RF and the other had LF plus a couple of numbers after the letters. Sorry I couldn't get them to rotate.
