I think that is Randy's "GM Retirement Fund"! I just wish I owned enough sets, that I could tell there was a difference.
I have one set (FINALLY!), that are all prepped and powdercoated with gold grade 8 bolts. They are a great conversation piece. Everyone that comes in and has heard all about them, wants to see and hold them.
We live in the "Great NW", up here in WA---This is logging/off road country---Where are all those danged tow hooks?

I wish I had more of them Frank!! Jerry got me straightened out on the differences between them, he would know! I'm hoping to find more around here on FARM trucks, farmers get stuck all the time, lol. Thanks Randy

dtlilly, I hope this link (I couldn't get the pic to post) of right and left hooks from a 72 satisfies your question. It's hard for me to explain why Randy's trucks have the same hook on both sides but it could be that they ran out of one or the other and installed what they had at the time. The part number on both of these hooks is the same and they are not identified as R or L. As you can see there is a definite difference though. I still have 3 or 4 sets lying around here and all of them are paired like this as were all the other sets that I have had in the past. Take a good look at the post "Powder coated tow hooks for sale" posted by drink2mny. There is definitely a R & L. Maybe some of the other senior members that have parted a lot of trucks can offer some insight. I feel alot of time has been spent on a trivial matter but if it clears the air then it is not forsaken. Thanks to all the members! I enjoy this board alot. Take Care and Happy Hunting, Rob

Don, ASK Jerry, he will tell you the samething I tell you. He and I have parted out alot of trucks, there are 2 different 72 hooks sets, the set like is on ebay, I had a burb that came from factory with them on them and sold them to NU2-72, they point opposite directions, these sets I'm talking about are supposed to point the same evidently because I've had 3 sets of those on trucks and they all pointed the same way, They are different hooks than the ones on ebay they have a 90 degree bend in them. If I have time today I'll put both sets on a truck and take a clearer pic. Thanks Randy

We are all going to become such great "Tow hook experts" that the Ford guys are going to think we are nuts!

Ok here are 2 different sets I have, I've seen both styles on 72 4x4.
This first style is like the style on Ebay for sale, point different directions and not as sever bend.

This style here points the same direction, I've had 3 sets like this. Notice the severe bend in them. Thanks Randy

67-68 hooks, they bend inward a little like the set on ebay. Thanks Randy

Truckpoor and teeitup, thanks for the posts in trying to answer my question. So it appears that there are 2 styles for 72, a different style for 67-68, then there must be a 69-71 style. GM sure was complicated back then

Jerry, boy things have changed on these hooks, I think the first set I sold you was around $40 -$45. Man I should of held out. LOL.

I have another set or two I was keeping for myself but I probably would sell them for $300 a set. I could put that on some other options I'd rather have.
