You might have been better off buying the item. If the item isn't as described you automatically have the insurance from ebay (for up to $100 IIRC) then you would have been out $15 + shipping if he refused to refund and it stunk. The thing about not paying at all means that you didn't have a chance to really determine that the part was not what you wanted, and he is right that officially the bid is a contract... good luck with it...

Who is this seller anyway? I buy stuff from e-bay all the time and always consider feedback before bidding. If this person royally screwed you I would definately think twice before purchasing from him/her.

You might try asking here about a seller next time before making a bid. All eBay will see is someone who placed a buy it now bid, decided afterward they didn't want it after all and backed out. You never recieved the product. Theres no proof of any problem. I would eat it and take it as a lesson learned.

I have been ebaying for at least a couple of years and I do anything and everything possible to make transactions quick and simple. I've been screwed twice, from one guy who simply changed his mind, even after I called him twice and got the "payment is coming" BS.

The other guy had taken some really deceptive pictures of some tires and unbelievable had the nerve to sell them. They were crap and worthless...chunked and cracked...but you could not see that in the pictures. I tossed $$$ away on that one, even did the whole "square trade" arbitration deal, etc...

Best thing you can do is accept the negative feedback, provide some of your own and hang on to your money if you are the bidder and suspect something is awry.

This guy did business here for a while selling "primered" parts, mostly misrepresented from my understanding. He was run out of here on the proverbial rail due to the vociferousness of his unhappy customers, but there is no one to alert people on eBay to his practices.

If I recall the whole story correctly, there was a partner of his that was actually a really upstanding guy and tried to make good on his failures. Sort of a Jeckyl and Hyde routine, I guess.

I've had some bad deals on ebay twice, both times, they described an item where you couldn't really say they outright lied about anything, more they just misrepresented what it was or implied a different condition than what it was.

However, I've head enough great experiences on ebay, some of which have allowed me to get stuff I wouldn't have been able to justify the expense of otherwise that I will gladly continue to use ebay to purchase stuff.

It's just one of the hazards of doing business, but the good people seem to outweigh the bad ones IMHO.

As far as e-bay goes I think that I have learned to stay away from the "Power Sellers" they are the ones that appear to be brazen enough to rip somebody off and claim that you are the one at fault. It gets kinda old after 50 or so negative feedbacks and the same excuse.

I pretty much stick with the small time ma and pa sellers with good feedback.

I will probably get slammed for this but Hooter kinda deserved the - feedback. When you win an auction on ebay, you are giving your word that you will pay for the item. I sell on ebay some and I don't know this other guy or what he has done but I have had a few people decide that they didn't want an item after they won it. This has costed me in listing fees, final value fees, and some times a reserve fee. This can really add up. Its just good business to follow through with the deal. Sorry if I offended. Wes.

He wont be out any money, all he has to do is file a non paying bidder form to get his final value fees returned to his account and ebay will let him relist it again without paying another fee.

I've sold alot on ebay and have been stiffed a few times myself, normally I would not agree with what you did, but after having several transactions off of ebay with this guy I believe you did the right thing. The stuff he sells is junk!

Ebay couldn't give a $hit when one of it's big sellers $crews lots of buyers around. I know the hard way more than once. Even the ones with quite good feedback can $crew you over. Lots of them don't get the bad feedback they deserve because the buyers are afraid of retaliatory feedback. If backing out of a deal because you found out from a source outside of Ebay saves you grief then lucky you. If Ebay actually cares email them this thread and if that doesn't work lets all email the chiseling ba$tards at Ebay and see what they think of a few thousand emails.

If the world worked the way it should there would only be good sellers and good buyers. Everything would be exactly what was described and in a condition that was accurately described by a knowledgable, caring, honest seller to a known standard (not necessarily the sellers or buyers). Items would be properly and thoroughly packaged so that they actually arrived in one piece and were shipped expediently. The shipping price charged would actually reasonably reflect what the cost was to package and ship the item. The seller wouldn't expect the buyer to deal with the consequences of his lousy packaging and say claim it on insurance (which in most cases only covers loss not damage anyway). All buyers would pay up quickly and all would comunicate politely and expeditiously.

My experience is that about half of the time I get about half of the above ideal or better and that's not just with Ebay. Not every deal I have made here has been perfect. Thankfully the odds of a good part for a good price are far better here and working out problems is far more polite and successful. There are real consequences if you screw somebody here.......sure aren't on Ebay.

If anybody here thinks Hooter should be paying to take it up the but after finding out elswhere that he was dealing with a less than scrupulous seller think again. Ya Hooter made a deal but it was based on the premise he was going to get what he paid for, he learned otherwise. Anybody that thinks he should follow through with a deal like that will never see a dime of mine.

My wife and I buy and sell on Ebay and anything sold is guaranteed. If the customer is not happy most of the time they just get a refund and are offered the item as a freebie. If it's a really spendy item we ask for it back and pay the refund including shipping both ways. The only bad feedback between us is on a set of NOS door panels I paid heavy for that were not even vaguely close to NOS and you guessed it it's retaliatory feedback.

Everybody is beating around the bush. He sells on ebay under the name truckparts67_72. I bought from him before I found out about him on the board. The chrome he sells is JUNK!
