Re: Rear Window ideas. Creative minds step inside

Anyone think it would be possible to take a stock sliding rear window and cut it down?

Re: Rear Window ideas. Creative minds step inside

The frame could be cut and tigged back together but if the glass is tempered you would have to have new pieces made. Tempered glass cannot be cut.

You could find a 1960 Parklane and get the rear window from it and install it.

Ok so I cut out the window opening. Going to finish it off with edge trim and then make my own removable window.

Not really pricey. Check out One Piece Products.

I contacted them to make my small window flush fit, and it was no problem for them to make it.

There would need to be a gasket between the frame and the lip and that would make it seal AND be removable. You could also look into hinging the top and use old-school pop-out window clamps at the bottom to make in non-removable, yet allow it to be cracked open.

With my limited custom fab abilities...I'd leave this job to a professional. OR, just cut the hole out and have a piece of glass cut and installed with polyurethane goo (like modern windshields).

I like your ideas

I like them too, BUT I am bias...lol

Look up "Destaco" clamps. You might be able to incorporate them into your removable design. If so, they are pretty handy and convenient. Destaco is a brand name, but others make them too.

What are you thinking about the design specifics. Doing it yourself or hiring the fabrication out?

I do everything myself. I can't paint so I usually get my brother involved for that. I believe we use those clamp at work. Thanks
