Re: Jesses' 48 PU

If you find yours, look for a set for me too. I have them for the 48, but I need them for the other truck.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

See if this works.
https://www.lmctruck.com/1948-59-che...glass-assembly

It calls it a window lift channel, item 11. It is for the 451-55.1 and a little shorter than we need.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

Flying out tomorrow on a family vacation for a week. So took advantage of the day and decided to put in a little work on the truck. Installed the door seals, you guys have seen all ive done on this truck. I swear snaking these rubber seals through the track was the hardest thing ive done thus far... the rubber strip lubricant helped, but being a one man show is hard.
It looked easy so started from the bottom up but as soon as I hit the first curve on top it came to a halt.. would not budge. So after several attempts, including trying to pry the strip into the channel, I decided to cut it in half and start from the top down. Installed the front and rear seperately and the added weatherstrip glue in the center splice to put the back together. Hopefully wind noise will not be an issue...

I am sure that if you have a buddy to push while you pull it maybe easier. But had to get creative as a one man show. After splitting it, I managed to snake it in from the top down, then came back up to get into the upper half... have to admit that the second one went a bit faster as I had it figured out. Did use some plyers to gently tug on it as fingertips get sore pretty quick...

Not sure, im sure we will never find out as more than likely it will probably only be open when parked, Texas weather requires all vehicles to have AC.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

Hello world... its been a minute or two since I posted an update. Well 2021 is coming to an end and lots has happened. I have worked on the truck but not as much as I would have liked too. I installed power locks (will post pics later) and tinkered with it here and there but due to some personal issues, Ive been limited or better yet, I hit the pause button until I felt I was back on my feet.
I lost my job back in July, after 10 years of hard work, loyalty and dedication it was decided I needed to go... so I did what any hard working man would do... flipped them off on the way out. With Gods blessings and a great network, I had a job the following week. But still had to get through some emotional and family issues.. Since then I have made great stride in my new position and I finally opened up my own company. The future seems bright and promising...
I am back to working on the truck, I enlisted the help of a friend and will take it to his shop in January to have the wiring, plumbing done and get the engine roaring....CANT WAIT...
I am currently working on the bed and need to have it installed before I take it to him. I need help though, I am not sure nor can I find good pics or info in YOUTUBE that shows how many CROSS SILLS the bed should have. Also the positioning.
if anyone has good pics or info of an original bed or your bed.. please send them to me.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

Hate to hear about the issues. I'll look for something on the cross sills.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

Hey Robert, thanks for the info. I placed an order from them yesterday and saw the diagram. Just trying to figure out how or where the two center cross sils go, do they sit on the frame? if so how as it seems they both line up where the wheel hump starts, why does the bed kit only have 4 blocks if there is 8 points of contact (frame and sill) or do the 2 center sills not sit on the frame and simply are support for the boards?
aaaahh so many questions...

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

I'm not doing the stock frame, but as I recall there are long bolts that attach the cross sill to the frame. I'll look around and get back unless someone else gets back to you first.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

I believe only the front and rear sit on the blocks, the 2 middle ones mount directly to the frame.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU

Merry Christmas to all, hope Santa brought what you wanted. Lol..
Me I finally made time to work on the bed, I finally got to install last years christmas gift (trailer fenders) I welded on 5" tubs. Overkill? Maybe, but not sure what the future holds... I cut the fenders and used the rounded edge for a better look. Ill have to trim the bottom once I sit the bed.
