Re: And so it begins................

Yessir, I figured you was talkin to guage. I was just letting you know mine was already done. You know, an fyi kinda deal?

Unfortunately, the block turns out to be no goody. It had a spun main bearing on #2 that ate up the block pretty bad. Too much to align bore it.

So, I am looking for another 4-bolt block if anyone knows where I can locate one. I'd prefer to just go ahead and use an older 2 piece rear seal blolck I guess so I don't have to mess with a different crank or adapter.

I don't like to go more than .040 really. Could I take it and have it checked?

Gotta be a 4bolt for the 383. Especially the way I drive them.

What does it cost to convert a 2 bolt over to a 4 bolt?
I know I have read about it somewhere.

Think the splayed caps are $150 or so but ill have to check, if i remember right they charged around $300 but that was at Folks in Norman. You would be better off finding a good block for a couple hundred unless your going to make an un godly amount of horse power, but it is said that the factory 4 bolts are stronger than splayed 4 bolts but who knows, they all blow up the same

I figured you would know
I was just thinking if you came up with a free 2 bolt block you might be better off converting it. It seems everyone wants a fortune for the 4 bolt blocks now a days.....

Re: And so it begins................

Well, I have a line on couple from craigslist but they're either bored already or complete motors they don't want to part out. I've picked up good deals on them over the years. One will slide around sooner or later if you boys just keep your eyes peeled.

Re: And so it begins................

Worked at the machine shop today and bored 3 blocks for him, some change of scenery and made a few bucks. I asked him but he doesnt have one but he knows a guy that has one but thinks it has to go .060 over so thats out but ill keep a look out. He is in need of an old style virgin block if you happen to come across one.

So do I. In fact, it's in the bed of my 4x4 right now and it's the motor that was in the truck when I bought it so it's a vin code Z motor.
