I did boot camp and MM A school there, Nov 85 - March 86. It was a nice break from the weather.

The best thing about winter is the end of it. My wife can hardly get me back in the house when spring rolls in.

Great Lakes for me too, Sept '66 to Nov '66. Showed up wearing a short sleeve shirt and promptly failed the eye exam. Held me back a week for glasses. They'd roll you out at 4 or 5 in the morning and make you stand outside for over an hour waiting for chow. All I had was the clothes on my back since they wouldn't issue your gear until you joined a company. Ah yes, standing in line in my civvies for a week in the freezing cold. Took me the rest of boot camp to finally get warm.

Boot and Corpsman school, Sept. 89-Apr. 90. One of the worst winters in years, according to the locals. I kept yelling, "Join the Navy! See the world!" As I was trudging through the snow. God, I was glad when I got off the plane at Lejuene.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

You were a corpsman huh? My wife worked at naval hospital Bremerton. She still has a few friends from there that were corpsman. I was one of the last nukes to go to Great Lakes. The class after mine went directly to nuke A school in Orlando. I had 11 months in Orlando too from april 86 to march 87. From one extreme to the other. I don't think I felt dry that entire summer, just continually damp/sweaty. And they had roaches that fly and are the size of mice. Nasty.

Eeeeeeew. I was just a reservist. They tried like hell to get me to go to nuke school, I was afraid of the washout rate. In retrospect I should have gone.

Maybe, maybe not. It's definitely not for everyone and the washout rate was high. I had some friends that didn't make it through. My cousin did it. I was one of those high achiever types that didn't struggle too much with it. Being on the submarine kinda sucked, but I can't complain too much when it gave me the knowledge and experience to get a job I love and provides well for my family and I made some great friends along the way. One is like a brother to me. I did my required 6 years, got as much training out of it as I possibly could (it helps being the training PO and being able to sign yourself up for any and all classes available ) and promptly got my ass out of there.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Thanks, we're getting ready for the show. Boppa is at the trans shop today having some minor issues cleared up by people who know what they're doing. (i.e. not me) Uncle Matt came out over the weekend and we fixed the axle seals and polished up a bit of underhood bling and got it installed. Then they washed up the truck in and out and I cleaned the shop, which literally looked like a bomb went off. I have some pics, but we'll get them up later. I have got to get the stanchions done. Ran out of gas last night.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Missed you at move-in, we got there about 3 and were gone by a little after 6. They initially had me in a non-existent spot, so had to go sort all that out before we could even get parked. We're in 3027 down by the Meguiar's stand. See you tomorrow!

Well, we made it! Check one off the Bucket List. Vic's truck is around the front of the Meguiar's truck, I'm off to the side of the front of the trailer. Gonna be fun!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

I put my truck in one show this fall. We parked it, wiped it down, then went to the swap meet and only came back to the truck to unload and have some lunch. Probably spent less than 30 minutes by it the whole day. To busy looking at everyone elses stuff. Have fun there. Wish I could drive mine right now.
