The shop owner is going on vacation next week. He seems to think he just needs 8 hours to finish his part, then off for paint repair. We are waiting for a quote for the front and rear glass install.

Jeff @ Sonoma County is sending it over to the shop that does all his exhaust. I don't remember the name of the shop. We are putting Magnaflows on it, but not stainless tubing.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!

Alright, well after many different drawing, hours searching the web and researching fiberglass, I think I have come up with my door panel design. Which will be a mix of Fiberglass and vinyl. Minor updates but still matching the styling of the truck.

Let me know what you think

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!

Looks pretty good to me, since you will be adding depth at the bottom of he panel for the speaker, will the portion below the original armrest location be recessed for a storage area simular to later model trucks?

Yes, the lower area, will be a "map pocket" and maybe a cup holder.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!

I received an update from the shop. Exhaust in done. Front and Rear glass are in and it's now at the paint shop for some touch ups, sanding and polishing. I should have it back in a week or two. At which time I will start working on the door panels.

Thats great news, she will be home soon!
Please taks lots of pics when you get started on the door panels, I would love to make a change to mine too. It would be nice to get some ideas from yours. Have you made a decision on the material you will use for the backing?

I picked up some 1/4 inch MDF, but will make the final decision once I get the truck back. I may start with a layer of fiberglass on the door and build off from there. I have given up on using ABS plastic, because the fiberglass and resin are not very combatible. The door panel plan look great in my mine, but putting it together the way I want will be a challenge.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!

I did a little work today. I asked a couple of people to make me some MDF speaker rings, well they flaked, so I bought some tools and made my own. I took me half of the morning, because it was the first time I had ever made speaker rings. I think the turn out nice. Now i just have to wait to get Lemon Drop back, so that I can measure the door and begin making the door panels.

Re: Project Lemon Drop: anything but stock!

Man, I'm kinda new to the board, and I started reading this thread. I started yesterday and just finished today.

When i got to the part where you said you sold the truck, I was like" WTF? . I just wasted all this time reading the thread, and he sold the truck???"

LOL, you got me good.

Good luck the rest of the way, I had a 68 SWB stepside and it was also bright yellow.
Not as nearly as nice as yours, but I loved it anyways.

This work makes me want to ask you, have you thought of how you will get the wires from the radio through the cab door jam and into the door?

Something similar to these, expect you can add additional connectors without having to buy a whole new unit. It will be at the back of the door and rear door jam. So when the doors is open there is no power/connection to operate the windows or hear the speakers.
