Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

I don't know how I missed this build thread. Beautiful truck! mine is almost identical (1970 short wide, black, big block, buckets). I've been fighting the idea of lowering it for a long time but seeing yours I know exactly how it'll look now and I like it! Oh, and have fun with that black paint..... its a never ending battle.

Thanks Scott, you're defiantly right about the black paint. I can't even make it out of my driveway and mine already looks dusty. I went with ECE 4/6 drop, it's a very nice complete kit. Let's see some pics of yours..

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

more than likely now that I saw yours, lol. I'm probably going to go with a 2/3 for starters. I heard it can be an addiction though and most end up dropping it more.

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

Not much going on this week, I just took my truck down to my buddy's shop and he's going to do the 700r4 lock up tomorrow. Also he is going to go over it front to rear while it's up on the lift and check and see where the oil leak is coming from. If everything works out I'm going to drive it down to Charleston this weekend to a 4 day car show and rod run. Wish me luck

Thanks Keith, I did have some good news from my buddy today!!! He called me about noon and said the oil leak was coming from the rear of the intake, so that was a lot easier fix than I was expecting. He is going to do the lock up kit on the transmission tomorrow. Since I had some free garage space here at the house I pulled my old "beater" Jeep Cherokee in to check it out before deer season rolls around. I had a thumping noise coming from the back, so I checked it out and found a rusted and broke spring hanger. I should have it back on the road in a day or so. That's the worst thing about living where they put the crap on the roads in the winter, everything rusts and it's a pain in the a$$ to get bolts out

That's awesome Jason to hear you don't have to pull the engine to fix the oil leak. I'm real glad for you, you've put in a lot to get your truck looking the way it does and on the road.

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

Nice luck on the intake, I never use the front or back intake gasket, Rpm pushs them out so as most engine builders do just a good bead of silicone, let it set up for 20-30 min and then install intake, never had a leak that way.
Glad for you though, back on the road quick.

I don't have the front or rear gasket on the intake, he did the bead of silicone but some how it had a little pinhole that was letting a some oil out. I talked to him this evening and he said everything looked good now. I'm off tomorrow so I'm going to go to his shop in the morning and help button up a few loose ends. One thing I'm going to change is the turndowns on my exhaust, it creates a major dust storm on a gravel driveway. Going to try to have a couple 90's bent and turn them out the side. Dust blowing everywhere with black paint is not a good combination

I always said I'd never own a black vehicle, and now I own 2. My Raptor is black also.

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project

Weekend update, my buddy and I finished everything up on my truck yesterday just in time for the show this weekend, but instead my stepdaughter and her husband had their baby boy early this morning. So we spent all last night doing the waiting game in the hospital. Her and the little one are doing great and everything went well, so now I'm going have a new sidekick to tinker with out in the garage.

Congrats! There'll be plenty of car shows, but not so many chances to be there when a new sidekick arrives.

Thanks guys, I was talking to my wife yesterday about a go kart or a little 4-wheeler and said " I might want to wait, he's only a half a day old".

I was thinking a little miniature rock crawler tube buggy, but as for know, I'm 38 years old and I still have a John Deere pedal tractor and cart that my parents bought me when I was about 2 years old. I'm going to go thru it this winter and get new decals for it and a new paint job for him.

Thanks, somehow the tractor survived all these years, I was pretty rough on my toys when I was a kid. As far as my truck, I drove it quite a bit this evening and it seemed to run a lot better after some tuning and tweaking that my buddy done. The torque converter lock up is great on the interstate. The transmission seems better after he adjusted the TV cable also. He charged the A/C even though I didn't need it here today, it only got up to about 55* here today. I changed the exhaust a little on Friday and I no longer create a dust storm pulling out of the driveway. And most of all no puddles of oil when I pull in the garage

Hi Jason. How's the truck running? Wanted to see if you had any new pictures of the interior of the cab since you got it all finished up?
