Re: '67 Short Step #2

I really love your truck!!! The color and attention to detail is outstanding. Could you tell me what color code you used for the Turquiose? I would really appreciate the info?

Re: '67 Short Step #2

Thanks guys! Dale, as for the paint code I can not say, it's a custom mix based on a '97 chevrolet color. Richard check the Alternate tinkerings section, I bought a car!

Re: '67 Short Step #2

Unfortunetly though, this is what's next for the truck...
I just tore it down this afternoon, No sign of a cracked block or head. Is it just a head gasket or what else could it be?

Re: '67 Short Step #2

Like a dead body....

I really did not expect to have this thing apart ever again, therefore I am officially retired from the burnout contests. Second picture is where we are headed next. Then we'll see about some dyno runs.

Not able to determine the culprit?

I'm free tomorrow afternoon. It's supposed to be nice weather wise. Look how clean the 4, 5, and 6 pistons are...

Re: '67 Short Step #2

any chance its sucking in brakefluid from the powerbrake servo (its in contact with the intake for vacuum if the maincylinder leakes intoo it it can get in the intake ) should be detectable by the lowering of the brakefluidlevel over time and maibe extra smoking on right or left corners (sloshing the brakefluid in in the servo in front of the vacuumport )
those last cylinders are pretty clean so it should be water maibe the headbolds need to be coated with sealant

Re: '67 Short Step #2

Man, thats rough. Real rough.

However, think of that blow off valve popping and the whistle of the hair dryer...it'll be pretty sweet.

Can't wait to see how this all goes.

And good luck with the diagnosis - if the head gasket wasn't blown out, I'd go with head bolt, possibly one of the allens? might've backed out a bit, or just didn't seal the jacket.

Re: '67 Short Step #2

Well doesn't look good. It's still leaking water from somewhere, looks like I may be putting a different motor in...But hopefully it's just the head.

But I did install my tool box!

No, I just did a head gasket because it was cheap and quick. Going to have the head tested next.

Re: '67 Short Step #2

Just got the head back from the machine shop. No cracks or anything, it looks like it was just the intake port head bolts. I replaced those with new and better bolts along with some head bolt washers and locktite 592. we should be in business by next weekend.

Glad to hear it wasn't the head...

BTW, nice looking box in the bed. Was it an old cooler or an actual toolbox?
