Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

I disassembled the Jaguar IRS partially to wire wheel it, sand, and paint chassis black. Now I'm just watching paint dry. I've ordered new Bilstein Shocks all around, new rotors, brake hoses, calipers, and pads. I'll still need to run new braake hard lines on the frame - later. Planning on attacking the IFS in the morning.

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

Just a little mid-Saturday update. Should have the other 3 pieces cut out soon and then work on a back plate and top plate. Upper shock mount used to connect to the Jaguar XJ-S unibody. I've seen some guys weld the mount to the frame, but it gets really big and bulky and might be in the way of the engine or some accessory?

Traced the other 3 off of the first one and poof..... Bat ears are all welded in. Now for the hat with shock mount hole and a back to strengthen it.

Wow.. Okay gotta say first thing I see when I get over here is Jaguar and that certainly wasn't what I was expecting but boy do I ever trust your choices in rear end setups ever since Frankenstein. Looking great man!

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

OK, I made the curved backs and welded them in solid, then with the rowlock sanding/grinding wheel I smoothed out all the welds and polished them up for paint. Now I need to tear down the rest and clean it up.

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

File this under: How to build a Jaguar IRS coil over shock.

Use some leftover Jag rear disc brake rotors, if you have strong enough all thread that is long enough you can skip the clamp method portion. My coil spring remover bolts weren't long enough so I improvised the first few inches with the clamps. Most spring removers won't fit in such tight quarters, so it is easier just squeezing the whole assembly. The Jag coil overs have the coolest little half ring binding retainers that hold the spring on.

That's pretty cleaver. Makes me wonder if that would work with a typical strut/spring assembly. Nice work!

Oh, and I left the Jaguar sticker on there just for fun. Also the rear brake pads say Jaguar on them, hopefully they will peep out of the rims.

Very nice work Drew. Your spring compressor looks like something I would come up with.
