Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff
I was going to post a bunch of pics tonight. The past couple months have been insanely busy and I have a bunch of pics uploaded but the hotel internet keeps crashing. Just getting any posts made is frustrating. So here is a teaser pic from today. Maybe the next hotel wifi will be more stable. Sorry...

Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff
Many of us have seen this. I'd bet my paycheck most think the same thoughts I do.
![]() I drive so much I tend to let my thoughts wander. This was what I contemplated for the next several miles after seeing that ramp... I was always pretty good at word problems but I'm not sure about this one. So I'm traveling at 75 mph and approach a ramp traveling at 70 mph. How much do I have to accelerate to clear the tow rig? The other pic suggested 47 mph for a 75' jump but that is stationary. Will 75' be enough room if the truck is moving 102.667' per second? We'll just add a few mph just in case. And I'm worried about wheel spin once I hit the ramp which is effectively stationary in relation to the tire speed. Better add some more speed. My momentum should help carry me through. So 75 + 50 + 10 = 135 mph ramp entry speed. Dammit! The fusion top speed is only about 105 mph. I'm going to have to ask him to slow down. Wait, where the hell did that ramp go?! This was my reference pic... ![]() Here's some pics from western ND. Around the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I had never been north of it before. I always saw it from where I-94 passes through. This time I was up in Williston and driving south towards Dickenson. Pretty nice drive... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I watched about a half dozen deer run down that slope across from me all the way to the bottom and downstream. ![]() The rock wall bordering the scenic overlook was made from petrified wood... ![]() Evidence of a landslide I think... ![]() Oil rig... ![]() Rusty square in Brandon, SD ![]() This wagoneer looked to be in decent shape, although it was parked in front of a repair shop. They weren't known for their dependability. ![]() ![]() Plain jane plymouth? wagon. Pretty solid car. Would make a good sleeper for a dodge wagon fan. ![]() ![]() Just a helicopter behind a body shop because why not? ![]() This thing is waiting for Cheech Marin to scoop it up and make it lower and slower... ![]() ![]() ![]() Uber driver in Nowhere, SD... ![]() ![]() Miniature train that was used in the black hills about a century ago. That's a museum in the background, closed for the winter. I think this was in Deadwood. Not long after I took this pic I saw a bighorn sheep up on the hill as I was leaving town. It was the first time I had seen on in the wild. Didn't get a pic unfortunately. ![]() This place had one helluva selection of signs to buy... ![]() ![]() Quiz time. Anyone know what this is? ![]()

I'm going to give this a shot from the AmericInn in Wadena. I got to spend the evening with a friend I met through this board. Tossed back a few beers and talked about life in the nuclear navy, trucks, school, trucks, engines, trucks and trucks. Cripes I had to scroll back to page 8 of my uploaded pics. Safe to say I'm not getting them all posted tonight. I might not remember the circumstances of many of them. Oh well, I gotta start somewhere. This old truck has been sitting by a shop NW of Alexandria for many years. It's kind of a time capsule for modifications during the van years... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This next set is of vehicles that were parked outside a shop in Paynesville. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This was by the same shop but what's unique about it to me is that it's the same kind of car I remember my dad having when I was little. Like 2-3 years old and the first car I can remember for sure. He had a 69 Mach 1 before this but had lost it to the bank when my parents lost all their possessions in a fire. The only thing I can remember of that car was standing up behing the front seats and falling back when he hit the throttle. What I remember the most of that light blue falcon was him opening the trunk before independence day to show us the pile of fireworks he bought in South Dakota (they were illegal in MN). ![]() Hey Chip, it's LBT! ![]() Here's a couple junkyard pics. This hood is in my shed for use on my sons stepside... ![]() ![]() This yard in Windom, MN is basically a part time operation. I probably have several pics in this thread from it already. I've always been able to find some GM truck parts here for a good price because the owner always had them in supply. There is a chevelle in the shop waiting to go together and he had this old 409 sitting around, and a bunch of parts for it so he built it up one day. ![]() A few miles north of Windom I have been driving past this shed for years that had a few old trucks in the trees and weeds. When my son and I went to get the hood we stopped by this place to take a closer look. Very cool old iron back behind it. I always look when I drive by to see if maybe the owner is ever around. I'd love to talk to him, but I never see any sign that anyone has been there other than the grass gets cut regularly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's a beast. I'd seriously look at buying this rig. It has been worked on recently. Probably runs alright. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That steering wheel is sweet... ![]() ![]() Shifters galore... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cool blinkers... ![]() Someone in Springfield got themselves a cool little project... ![]() ![]() Sioux City, IA. Where is a cop when you need one. I'd gladly take the ticket for speeding here. I swear I was going at least 16 mph. ![]() One of the steel sheds on my property was finally vacated by the guy I bought the place from. It still needed plenty of junk cleared out of it. While I was cleaning it out I was raking old tree bark and other stuff (used to be a wood storage shed) and found this cool old vise grip tool buried under the detritus. It still works with just minor clean up. ![]()

![]() This one was used to test the glycol in a hot water boiler heating system. Here's some more ND pics for you Tommys72. I drove by this place on my way to Williston. I really like the old jeep pick ups. I'll probably have one eventually. I found a couple on this particular trip. ![]() ![]() He had a square body K-5 also... ![]() Just an old building sitting in a field with nothing else around it... ![]() Someones private junkyard... ![]() An Opal? ![]() Was staying in Chamberlain, SD for the night. On my way back to the freeway from the hotel I had to stop and wait for the turkey parade. They were heading down to the Missouri river from a swim I think. ![]() ![]() ![]() Nice solid burb for sale there in Chamberlain also. It was a low option 3/4 ton. A few dents and dings, but not bad. ![]() Herd of turkeys south of Chamberlain about 20 miles... ![]() Want... ![]() ![]() Back to ND again. I was on a run of bad luck with winter travel. That previous trip into SD I wasn't able to make it to Rapid City because of the blizzard I was tuck in. Managed to make it to Murdo for the night. It was a few hour delay and not really a big deal for me. But the next week in ND was just plain nasty. I ended up spending an entire day waiting out another blizzard at a hotel in Bismarck. This pic was from the ND highway condition website. All the red roads are closed. When I saw it I thought of the old sea maps... ![]() Center of north america? ![]() The closest business was this mexican restaurant... ![]() How about another quiz? Any guesses of this tool? ![]()

Re: HG's thread of miscelaneous stuff
I love your thread, this is such a good idea. Great to see all the different oddities and randomness from different parts of the country.
I hope you dont mind but I saw something kinda cool the other day when I was tooling around on some back roads and wanted to share and this seems like the perfect thread for it... ![]() ![]() Anyone recognize it? Hint...California's Governor sat in it.
