Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab

This foot locker came back from Iwo and Japan with my father after WWII. I used it to move to Germany in the early 80's and it has been in the attic for most of the last 20 yrs. But now it has become my "quick-release" storage chest for the truck. The jack, fire extinguisher and other odds and ends will go into it. It stays put using some brackets and anchor points I put into the rear floor of the bed just ahead of the tail gate.

The brackets/anchor points keep the chest from going forward and the tail gate traps it from moving rearward. When I need to haul something big I just pop the chest loose from the anchor points and stow it to the side. The anchor points are low profile and are flush with the tops of the floor ribs in the bed so they don't interfere with cargo.

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab

I also grafted 4 tie-down loops out of my 95 Burb and put weld nuts under my bed floor. Two up near the cab and two behind the fender wells. I love these things. Very handy for keeping the junk stationary.

Pic 1 is of three little brackets I fabbed up. The two with the blue arrows will hold the ECM and the little post under the yellow arrow holds the main relay box.

Pic 2 shows the ECM and relay box installed.

Pic 3 is another one of my quick-release toolbox freshly painted with satin black.

Great work on the clip flip, and seat work. The chest is a sweet addition as well. Man your monkey gets a work out. Does that sound right?

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab

I have the stance where I like it. All it takes is 6 to 10 sacks of concrete in the bed.

I'm running around with a naked nose job right now. Good thing I am in SoCal and mostly inland where the humidity is low enough I can get away with this for awhile.

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab

It is time that I publicly retract my statement on post #503 where I implied that my sister-in-law caused the great propane explosion of Christmas 2011. (Not that she will ever read any of this... but it's the thought that counts.)

Turns out that my bro in law (not married to said SIL) saved the stove carcass and later on he got to studying the stove and discovered that the oven door spring had been rubbing into the side of the gas pipe and finally (while we were cooking our bird) it rubbed a hole into the pipe.

So sorry SIL Jill, I take it back. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time when that thing lit off!

Wow, crazy! I'm usually one of the last to say "lawyer up" but you could actually save a lot of other people's lives if that truely is a design flaw. I'm assuming that's how it came from the factory and the only connection made in the home is the gas hose at the bottom?

Fortunately no design flaw. The dude that installed the stove relocated the pipe because of where the the supply line came through the floor. He did not have a view of the side and didn't see what was happening. He paid for all the repairs to the kitchen.

Re: Halfbreed - GMC Z71 + IH Extd Cab

I saw this truck in the Home Depot lot today, what a project, I just had to ask questions. I waited some time for the owner to appear, but what a conversion we had. What Steve has done makes my project look like kids play. I really am looking forward to watching the progress. Thanks Steve for all the insight.
