Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

well, maybe i'll get some work done on this tomorrow... gov employee day off ya know...

Decided to try the electrolosis rust removal on my new water pump, probably just have to buy another, this thing rusted on the inside in two months of being removed...

Then I picked up on of these 3M discs for the grinder ($14!) but it takes paint off pretty nice. Figured I would try to strip the tailgate I have vs. blasting....

Also picked up a new tip for the Miller...I love going to AIRGAS, started talking with the manager about trucks and learned that he had a 68 back in the day...

Good news is that mama agreed to get the truck painted once I get promoted. COuld be this summer or within the next two years!!!!! at least it's a start..

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I put my corvette crank pulley on and it looks pretty close. It could use another 1/8" spacer in between the two...

Make it match the bottom of the door. Your weather stripping and chrome step guard will cover that piece up.

You can pick up spacer's for the crank pulley's, in case you didn't know. I can get you a measurement tomorrow off of mine. Mine sat right on top of the inner and fit pretty snug. I did have to take a board to the lip so it would have the right spacing. Clamped the outer rocker in place then put screws in to check fit.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

that would mean it needs to come up... i don't think it can since my gap is as tight as it can go... overall I think the floor is a little high so I need to fix it with the rocker.

Figured you did. I'm with you on that one. Taking it one part at a time. I'm glad i didn't have to put a full floor in like you did. I would have to say the outer rocker has to be the easiest part so far. Famous last words. Good luck with yours. Daren

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Use some zip screws to pull the rocker down to the floor flush, gotta sit tight so you can weld it. Generally you have to play with the A post to allow the front portion of the rocker to come down, looks like the gap is tight on the front of the door, hard to see.

The gap between the floor and the rocker looks pretty strait, that height will not change as the rocker has to sit tight against the floor

Got any pics of the front with the door closed?

I need to remeasure the A-pillar, like you said, I think it's a little high. That or the BFH can adjust it..

that's quite the angle, shows that I have to room to play with. How's the weatherstrip mate up with your door?

i'm still gonna go buy another water pump since they are only $25. It worked pretty well, i'd try it on small items that a wire wheel couldn't get into...

I should have let you TIG my gas tank delete in... what a mess. All was going well and then I blew a hole, which grew and grew. I should have tacked it in from the back... then filled in the groove. I THINK I saved it but who knows. It will need some mud, I just hope it doesn't crack in a year or two from a week spot or something...

they can last up to an hour but if you are hitting edges or sharp things expect a third of the life.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

thanks.. i doubt I will buy another since it is going down pretty quickly..

Today I decided to ruin a perfectly good hole. I have this patch from Infinity rides and wanted to burn something... Well, I should have done more research. All was going well until the first hole opened up... then it was downhill form there. That led to more and more and finally I had to go to the backside to thicken up the metal that I had ground away from the front. I should have tacked the in from the back then ran a small bead in the gap to fill it in on the front. Hindsight being 20/20 I think the will work. it's gonna need a little mud and sanding and the back is ugly has heck...that's for sure

I measured my original cab and the gap looks to be just shy of 3/8 of an inch. I plan to do the gas tank hole too, looks like you had fun with yours. Good luck with your progress.
