I think the 89 crew cabs, the 89-91 Jimmy, and the 89-91 Burbs all have the same grill.

We only have one station within 100 miles of here but fortunately it is only 10 miles from my house. Down side is that it is on the opposite side of town from me and I don't go that direction very often. I thought about just getting a fuel drum and fueling up at home that way I only had to make the trip over there once every couple weeks to refill the drum.

If you could run E85 all the time you could build and tune the engine to take advantage of the 105 octane and really see the benefits of it. I know people running massive amounts of boost on E85 and building some insane power numbers with it.

A friend of mine has a twin turbo 5.0 liter running E85 and the thing runs 144 mph trap speeds in the quarter.

I plan on making my 68 Camaro a dedicated E85 vehicle instead of running race gas when I convert it to EFI.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Fortunately there are quite a few stations with E85 in town, and along the front range. A station I pass by on the way to and from town that's close to home is about 2 years old, so the E85 pumps have only ever had E85 in the tanks, so I know I will get good fuel there. And the place I always fuel up at has E85 and buried new tanks for it when they added it.

And the price spread is good at the station close to my house. Right now 85 octane is $2.45 and E85 is still $1.88.

About how many MPG's do you lose on E85?

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Forgot the important part. With the 5.3 you can just pick up a 2001-up flex fuel version for the swap and as long as you install the fuel ratio sensor the converted rig can be flex fuel too.

The injectors are a little bigger and have a different pig tail connector.

On the early ones they used a fuel ratio sensor to tell the PCM how much ethanol was in the fuel mix so you could run any mix of gas & ethanol with no problems.

At some point (I think it was 2005) the newer versions deleted the fuel ratio sensor and it is all done in the PCM. It is probably about the time the reluctor wheel changed tooth count so it probably wouldn't be as simple as running the right injectors and the newer tune.

I will have to check into this to make sure there isn't a single year or application that used the newer tune and the older reluctor wheel tooth count.

The Tahoe gets right at 15 on gas and about 13 on E85 running around town.

I ran the numbers and it was pretty much a wash with the lower cost vs. the higher consumption.

I would rather run E85 and give my money to an American farmer rather than some scumbag in another country so E85 is my fuel of choice when I can get it.

He's about right, I have a 2007 Silverado Classic, I get about 15 with E-85 and 17 with gas on a factory tune. Dont forget about the fact that E-85 is higher octane....so you can really feel it...when you step on it...lol...

Street & Performance is a good place from what I hear. My uncle built a street rod a few years back and it had a motor in it from them. When he got all the wiring done he took it over to them, and they tuned it all and worked everything out. He said it was a very cool place.

They are all interchangable. You just have to swap the grill center section and the headlight surrounds. I just did the Jimmy grill in my truck & love it. Bob, I think you should come over after you get Fred together and "accidently" trade me trucks. Fred is AWESOME!!!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

LOL, thanks, but I need to redraw it. I came up with an easier way!

OK, here are some more pics. First is the temp sending unit adapter. It's polished aluminum. And I'm a little nervous. I think I may have overtightened it as it felt like it might have stripped. I would like to think that if something striped out, it would be the adapter and not the head. I guess I'll find out when I get it running.

Then the air filter and the bracket I made last night. You can also see the brass fitting I put together for the steam line.

I went and saw a friend of mine today, and he had a clutch fan for me to use for mock-up. It has a broken blade. But he also thinks he has a good one, so I will swing by his shop on Friday and see if he found it. If so, that will save me some time on Saturday and some $$$ too. I also got the shroud to fit too, I had to cut a little around the air intake, but it all fits real nice, but I need to trim it a little more (where the Sharpie line is). The fan sits just right in the shroud.

I believe you can accomplish the 4 high lights with a simple diode...hope you don't mind...I modified your drawing, quick and dirty like

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Yeppers, that's the easier way! Except I want to run the diode to the switching/trigger wire on the low beam relay, instead of straight to the lights.

Oh yeah, I don't mind at all!
