Re: 72 k20 project

Still not finished, i forgot to swing by the tractor supply store and grab a receiver tube. other than that, it basically lacks paint.

the tabs for tow points. they are also the mounting bracket. so it is directly bolted to the frame. unfortunately they are a little thin for the clevis's

Re: 72 k20 project

so i added a 1/4" plate to either side

takes up the extra space well. i also ground the welds to imitate a machined bevel. im sure it wont fool anyone but it looks better IMO

fromunda

keen eyes will notice the mounting holes are countersunk for a std 82* countersink fastener.

Your bumper is freaking awesome! I wish I lived closer. I'd have you whip one out but that shipping BS might kill it on that heavy dude!

Re: 72 k20 project

Thanks

yeah, it ended up a little heavy... its not bad compared to the standard fare of 1/4 plate bumpers, bu it still made me grunt a little when i picked it up.

I realize the compressor can be put up there, but in my opinion it becomes a rather ugly focal point (its all about the looks right??). I bet with your wicked torch skills and stick welding abilities, you could come up with something that mounts it further over and lower to keep it from being the visual magnet that the high-mount setup is (or at least paint it black or whatever color your motor is going to be to keep it somewhat camouflaged).

I agree, for now though, its a choice of which is the lesser of the evils. if i done move the compressor, i have a screwball transition to make for the clean air inlet into the primary. if i dont, i have an a/c compressor somewhere funny. so if i can make it happen and look clean with my chainsaw and coat hanger welding ill move it, otherwise, it stays and i have to make some abortion intake for the primary.

i was talking with Ryan last night about how i dont like it because its ugly, but i think i may be able to make it look ok.

Man, nice job on the rear bumper, that thing is stout and it looks great on the back of the truck.

Re: 72 k20 project

It surely can't be as ugly as a green dash in an orange rig.

Getting 2 turbos to fit in these trucks is a challenge. His engine being set back some, and engine compartment area don't help. I feel his pain, but I like the way he has his better than how I have mine. His looks cleaner IMO. I'm betting he can get the high mount a/c to look nice and then it'll open up that area in front of the primary to get the big pipe in there.

There's not much uglier than a green dash in an orange rig, unless it's got blue, yellow & white pin striping on it, and chrome accents on the glove box & ash tray...

Sounds like some of the parts trucks I've had.

Re: 72 k20 project

Thanks Guys

cold pipe

and my 2 minute mock up of the possible new location of the a/c compressor

it looks like it wont be hard to mount. and it kind of blends in. it will hide even better with the charge pipe mounted. i really thought i would hate it more.

Re: 72 k20 project

Are you just planning on machining a plate that will bolt to the holes right under where your compressor is sitting? why are you relocating it anyway? CAC pipe clearance?

maybe machining, might just form something. it is in the way of the primary inlet. it can be made to work but if i can move it and not hate how it looks i will to make the inlet pipe much better.

Re: 72 k20 project

Thanks

got my receiver tube welded on.

and finshed the charge pipe.

i still have the pipe for the inlet of the I/C from the compressor housing to do. i am not for sure how i will be doing it until i know if the a/c compressor is getting moved or remaining in the right side
