They are both Champion. They are from China so they are cheap but I've heard they are pretty reliable. It looks pretty well built.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I have quite a few updates. I have not been on here much as I have been updating on facebook and instagram.

- I've been roughing in the rear tubs and the trying to get the bed floor designed.
- Mocked up my air box and wood floor.
- I have pulled the bed off to start work
- I have started cutting up my new bedsides to start the install of the rear tubs.

I don't know how to rotate those pictures after they've been added, I hate that.

I got some new parts today.

New Hood, New fenders, New Bumper, and new mounting hardware.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I also started cutting up my perfectly good bed to install tubs this weekend.

I have added 1X1 tubular bracing for the tub structure in the bed side. I am also working on getting my rear tub-bedside filler ready to weld in also.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

Sweet build. I am subscribing so I can find my way back like leaving bread crumbs.
I am building a 68 dually now (not going in this direction) but have a 63 GMC short fleet that this is "exactly the direction" I want to go with. Love it.
Oh yeah, you guys are praying and wanting warm weather whereas here in Phoenix AZ we had 90* last weekend and we are dreading the heat that's coming.

Just spent the last two days reading through your build and all I can say is AWESOME! Thanks for taking the time to document your success as well as failures along the way. That saves guys like me frustration and heart ache. Very nice build and cant wait to see it done!

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

A little update. Spent the day getting the inner rear tub skin installed and one of the rear tubs. Hope to get the other one in this week. It will be rough with two kids in baseball right now.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I built a 1x1 inner skin support. I cut the wall on three sides and bent it to the contour of my tub cutout. I then made a cardboard template of my inner skin and cut it out with my primitive tools aka the sawsall and cutoff wheel. I welded the tube in place. The placed the inner filler inside and clamped to the tube structure. I welded it on the inside and out. I left the top open because the tub will fill in that space. The tub was installed and welded in.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

Got the inner skin welded in tonight. Hope to grind it down and get the tub in by this weekend. Then I can start to square up the bed. I've also started to break out my niece new pretty sheetmetal so I can just turn around and cut them up to install my slosh tubz by Mike Losh

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I have quite a few updates to put on here. This falls behind because it is much easier to post stuff on Facebook and Instagram.

Got the inner fender welded in and the other tubbed tacked and fully welded in. Had a little helper also. My daughter wanted to watch me weld.

Started working on some rust repair for the tailgate. I think I am actually going to fix this thing rather than buy a new one, haha.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I made some tub extensions and got them in place also. This should help prevent and road grime from getting anywhere is shouldn't.

I also capped off my front bed support. I am actually mounting it upside down because it works better. I just didn't like the open c-channel it posed.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

Two final shots for the day.

The tubs and welded and ground down finally. I hate grinding by the way. Im prepping them to be sprayed with a coat of epoxy prior to filler.

The last shot is just one I took before leaving the garage for the night.
