Mild, it will be coil overs so I have to account for these roads. Should sit almost the same as it does now, but handle with way more control!

Yep, but they're not as bad as Mississippi, thought I was going to leave some suspension pieces their during Cruisin the Coast last year!

Buck I think it would be a wise investment to go ahead and get the front dm too. Buy it, install it and enjoy!

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

I just went through your entire thread. Glad to see you've gained your interest again. I know all too well about not having things go the way you want or as quickly as you want, but if you hang in there, it will eventually be where you want it too. And it is worth every moment.

I also think it's a great thing your wife likes the truck. Mine loves driving the truck, so it's much easier for her to understand why I'm doing some of the things I'm doing to it, instead of just complaining about the money I am spending on it. If she hated old cars, I wouldn't have as much fun as I'm sure there would be a limit to the amount of time and money I'd be able to spend on my hobby.

I love what you've done with your truck and am looking forward to future updates!

Still working it but I have made some progress. Rob Hartley drove it when I was at his house a few weeks ago and said he thought his truck was much worse. That made me wonder if I am asking too much of a 45 year old truck. But when I talk to guys like n2billet who says his truck runs smooth at 70-75 mph (and faster) it leads me to believe it is possible to have a smooth ride. I did find the two bolts attaching the transmission mount to the crossmember were too long (bottomed out) which let the tail shaft move around. After adding a flat washer to each one it calmed the vibration down quite a bit. We have a Cruisin' the Coast-ish event here this weekend and I'd like to detail some things I didn't do when I installed them (brake rotors and calipers etc), so I'll have the wheels off and will get the balance checked this week. Been wanting to get them checked but every time I thought about doing it I found a reason to go drive it instead! While I am at it I'm going to grease the front end, check wheel bearings, and do a nut and bolt check through the entire chassis. Hopefully I will find some simple stuff that will help get things smoothed out, that way I can reel you into a trade for your Blazer when I'm up there in August! (JK)

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

This is proof I am working on my wreck. It is also a very good example of what happens when you half a$$ something because you have no patience. I am planning to paint/repaint the rotors and calipers black. Or should the rotors be black and the calipers red? Taking the wheels/tires to get them balance checked and then on to the brakes and a front end lube, all in an effort to smooth out the ride. Oh... and shine this turd a little.

Well, the silver isn't too bright so that may be a good choice, will have to see what is available at the parts store.

Rotors black, calipers done in hammertone. I like the black/silver hammertone combination!

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Well, I have news on what may have been a big part of my vibration/shaking problem. Checkout the pic of my wheels after being rebalanced. The blue tape is the new location of the wheel weights, and the white tape is the old. The tire tech said he figured I had a pretty serious vibration. Bought some new front rotors/pads/bearings/seals, gonna get started prepping and painting tonight. This thing has to be ready by Friday morning for "Burning up the Beach!" weekend.

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

All 4 rotors painted, front calipers cleaned and taped up, I'll prep the rear calipers and paint them all after work tomorrow. If all goes well I should be able to reassemble everything tomorrow night. It would have been so much easier if I had done this in the first place...

Sorry for the crappy picture, it's late and I have to be up at 0400.
