i got a job again and having fun at it too

idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts

Just read a little bit of your build here... a few fixable issues that might come up for ya. First a .48 turbine a/r is appropriate for an engine half to 2/3 the size of the 250.... which means you will spool right off of idle good side of this is LOTS of power down low!.... bad side of this... dont plan on taking her past about 3500-4000 rpm otherwise the backpressure and heat will become so much your likely to break something. the next comes in with your carb a 390 DP carb is great N/A on these engines but with a blow through a step up is needed as it will be much much harder to tune. I spoke with CSU and they would use a 750 with this motor, but said anything 600-750 will be much more tuneable. I went with a 600 because jet sizes and PV's will be much closer to what is needed right out of the box

Pushed the truck out for a wash and wax, put a new part on and finished the downpipe welds.

I'm not looking for a ton of power here. I agree that turbine is a little small, should work for what I'll be doing. It'll be like driving a diesel probably.
I use the carb shop for the mods, they suggested buying the 390 DP. It'll be dyno tuned before I get it so lets hope it works.
I'm really just trying to get this thing running and then most likely start building another engine/setup.

theres plenty of space for a air water intercoolernextr to the engine that and a thin radiator in front of the stock radiator should give you some edge over running without

Water to air intercooler would be nice. Is there any way to limit rpm besides an msd type box?

curious on how it will run for sure , theres a tread on the turbo forum that involves a 6 inline chevy maibe you can get some pointers from them since they do more work with turbo's in general

Crane Cams (part # 750-1710) makes one to convert the points over as does mallory and pertronix (part #1162A)

Points even with the hall effect sensors will start to float at 5000rpm the natural harmonics of the stock crank will limit you at 5900rpm. I have an extra brand new billet HEI laying around that also has the msd conversion cables with it if your interested. MSD 6 boxes can be picked up pretty cheap and your going to need the extra spark under boost, the stock system's spark will get blown out even at .035 gap. You will also want to run a colder plug (I went 4 ranges colder part # BPR6ES).

I just bought a nice HEI, Does it have to be a special one to work with MSD?

I'll be limiting boost at about 7 PSI.

you have to gut it and put the adapter harness in from MSD and then there is a harness that runs from the adapter to the MSD box. At 7lbs of boost it probably isnt worth your time to run an intercooler... unless you plan on running around a LOT where your going to be constantly hitting 5-7lbs of boost... for that much I would seriously consider meth injection with a 3lb injector that turns on at 4-5lbs of boost most of the turbo guys on the forum thought that I was even being a little over protective doing it at 8-10lbs of boost. Use a 50/50 mix meth to H2O. Get a pump the injector a check valve put the nozzle in before the carb hat with a $12 pressure transducer that trips the pump on and call it a day, pump is about $100, injector is $25 check valve is $20, line is ~$5. Install time about 45 min to an hour to make it look real clean and professional. Intercooler and piping your looking at least $200-300 for anything halfway decent and about 6-8 hours of install to make it look clean. Just my .02

It'll be just a run around town or to work just about driving 10-20 mins at a time type of truck. Honestly just doing the turbo to learn something and to turn heads at the show. I'm trying to get all the information possible. This weekend I'll be getting that '84 pump mounted up since I have the carb hat!

If thats all... I seriously wouldnt even spend the money and time on intercooling because it really wont be running long enough to see the benefit of the intercooler! meth at the top of the boost (5-7lbs) will give you some detonation protection and a little increase in power but honestly not 100% even necessary for the run time that you will be running. Just start your timing conservative and work it up SLOWLY!

Currently working on the fuel lines, going to be a custom made block and lines with banjo fittings for the carb to clear the wastegate. Picked up an MSD 6AL, just need to get the parts for the distributor. Other than that, the only thing I'm missing now is the intake piping.

Any advice on throttle setup? Was thinking a cable with a pulley will get the 90 degree turn I need and function smoothly.

I'm really curious to see how your down pipe turned out, Can you post up some pics that detail it a little better. and also what size did you use? I am planning on 3" to prevent restriction in the system, looks like it should clear, but havent test piped it with flex hose to see if it will work.
