After fighting a caliper piston for a couple of hours the rear is complete. Tomorrow I will tackle assembling the front...

Looks great Buck. Hopefully that fixed your vibration issues. You had me a little worried that my trans tailshaft might be sitting a little too low.

Looks nice! Glad you got the vibration figured out.

I do have one question for you... Are you going to sand off the paint on the braking surface before you drive it? I would think that paint will gum up your pads.

Thanks Keith, I guess I'm going to have to pay more attention to the details so I don't have to go through this again. It's all Jeff's fault, his truck is SO darn nice, I am going to have to put in some elbow grease to shine this turd!

I still may have some drive line alignment issues, but I hope the wheel balance takes care of most of it!

I'm going to let the pads wear off the paint to make a nice clean line. The pads will be fine. In the past I was taught to paint fresh pads to help prevent squealing. I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

Finished up the rotor swap and got it back on the ground. Here are a couple of pics of the front, I took a pic with the wheel on but it is crappy. I'll take one with it outside in the sun.

Through this little project I have learned that when you paint stuff it just leads to painting more stuff... Maybe I should have left it all rusty!

Thanks! Yep, made it just under the wire!

WOW! What a difference!!! I guess there is something to this phenomenon of balancing wheels and tires. I posted some pics of the difference in placement of wheel weights, but I didn't mention that one of them was more than 4oz out. That doesn't sound like a lot but I guess it is when it comes to balancing a tire. The tire tech said he is curious if they were ever really balanced. I drove the old truck to work this morning, took it up to 75 mph and it was surprisingly smooth. There is a little "roughness" but I think that is just what happens when you try and push a brick through the wind at 75 mph, overall it is a marked improvemnet in ride. The front brakes are a little "grabby" just as the truck comes to a stop, but that seems to be getting better the more times I use them. Any way Burning Up the Beaches starts today, I'll try and take some pics and post them up each night.

Glad to hear you got the vibrations wrkd out i know how frustrating that is... Spend time and lots of money to end up with vibrations in the drivetrain sucks.

Thanks guys! I can't believe I didn't have the balance checked sooner, I just couldn't believe they would be out of balance straight from the manufacturer. It rides SO much better, and at all speeds.

Do you have a clear shot of the backside of the rotor/caliper setup? curious to see how CPP's kit is vs the Kit I have from Toms Classics.........more importantly what the rotor application is originally from?

Re: Project "Just an Old Truck"

It appears the rear calipers are '78 Eldorado, the rotor however is a bit of a mystery. There is a part number stamped on the outer edge that reads 5568-X5. The only cross reference I can find is for a mid 90s K1500, but they are 6 lug. Maybe they buy blanks and have them drilled to 5 lug, I don't know. Here is the best picture I have of the back side...

That is what I am running for rotors, just redrilled.........I could not locate blanks to drill to 5 lug so ended up re-drilling 6 lug. I appreciate the info and pics......Your truck is very nice to say the least.I am still interested in that crossmember when the time comes.

Thanks bro. It shouldn't be too long now, my Porterbuilt stuff was supposed to be built last week and ship this week.
