Hmm...I'm not sure if the weather's going to be decent enough. It won't be 100, or 50 below LOL. I am going to try and get SOMETHING done on it this weekend. Well, unless we go camping instead

I think you're years ahead of me now if yours is going to be under it's own power.

Some inspiration for you!!!

Yours is going to turn out nicer than mine lol. You have spent more time and have a nicer garage to work in. I'm trying to get mine finished before my Dad gets tired of me using his space and his welding machine

Haha!

That is awesome! Sounds awesome! I can't get wait to get to that stage of my build. It will feel much less daunting

I haven't done a whole lot lately, but yesterday I built a cab lifter for the hoist and pulled the cab off.

Looks like a dandy cab lifter. Beats heck out of what I used. I think today or tomorrow I'll be working on the dents in the edge of my roof that my lifting system created. Good to see you back at it.

Much better setup than mine Mike. The nicer my cab becomes the more I worry I should rebuild my cab lifter. I'm going to use yours as a model, good job!

Thanks all! Yeah, it feels good to move forward if only to be derailed by my fuel fitting situation. I didn't realize that trying to figure out what fittings I would need was going to take days worth of research! I think I'm getting close, but I'm struggling with what fittings to use on the fuel pump assembly. If anyone has recommendations, I would gladly take the advise!

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Well, I hope to have some fittings and miscellaneous stuff ordered this weekend. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to transition from the throttle body to the steel lines. I really don't like the bulkiness of AN fittings, but it's looking like that might be my only option. I REALLY don't like the looks of the AN to tube adapters that I've found so far, so the search continues.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

i have the metric o ring to AN fittings on the back of the TB on my jeep, then i used black nylon braided hose for the soft. looks less flashy and once the air cleaner is on, it goes away. i dont have any pics of it right now, but if you would like to see it i could snap a few*.

* Jeep is dirty and greasy. dont judge me... haha

if that is a route you care for there are some AN to tube fittings from the instrumentation and controls industry you can look at. pretty low key, at least to me.

this is what they look like. double ferrule compression fittings that are rated for way more pressure than will ever be produced in the system.

Haha! Isn't that how Jeeps are supposed to be? I would love to see the setup if you have time to snap some shots.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Ok, I finally have my fuel line saga solved. I ended up getting the fuel line repair kit from Oreilly Auto, and bending them how I wanted them. It turned out ok, I think. Now I just need my rubber fuel lines and I should be ready to rock. Nevermind the wiring mess...one saga at a time

Thanks! Yeah, I think the 350tbi is a great dependable engine. Not really going to be a power house, but I don't really need the power anyway.

Things are looking awesome! We talked awhile back about bending your own break lines. I had to take a hiatus from the build, second child came into the family, and would love to drive down to SJ to kick the tires and talk with you about my build.

You open to that idea?

Mike, it's looking great. That TBI 350 will be fine after you shim the fuel pressure regulator. I had a burb with one and it was a dog until I shimmed that regulator. Then it would get along just fine.

Thanks Ryan! Shim the FPR eh? Guess I'll have to research that now...thanks a lot!

Yeah, I wanted to make sure it was stout because I'm usually working on this thing when friends are nowhere to be found

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

I'm still following your progress!! get some work done

Seriously though, looking good. I've owned and driven a couple tbi trucks in my life, and despite their low horsepower ratings and entire lack of power above 4000rpm, they never fail to dissapoint in tq, fuel economy, or fun. In fact, when I detuned my 383, I had my freshly-purchased 1992 c1500 in mind. I wanted a strong midrange powerband. from 1500-4000. You can really feel that on the street.

EDIT: ALSO, I have a buddy with a 1993 c1500 with a TBI 350 and 340,000 miles on it. The truck still runs like a top. The engine has never been touched. He doesn't even change oil in it as frequently as I would
