Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Today spent the day installing flex exhaust pipe on the left side and installing the fuel tank. No modification to the frame or cross members. I used the rear cross member to support the back of the tank and made a front mount out of 1" square tube 1/8" wall thickness. I'm going to add strap in the middle to complete the installation.

Looking really nice! You are using up that space wisely. I have no where near the room under my bed with the hitch and suspension etc.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Hello All
I have question with setting up fuel lines for LS engine swap. I have confirmed that I have returnless fuel system so I ordered a fuel filter Regulator from corvette. does it matter where the filter regulator is located.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

The pump and filter should be as close to the tank as realistically possible. I put mine on the frame right under the door, with an isolater so I didn't hear the pump run while in the cab

My pump is in the tank. I'm talking about Corvette fuel filter with regulator built in.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I would guess somewhere accessible and away from high temps? It's after the in tank filter/pump so being able to replace it if necessary and any heat concerns. Looking forward to hearing this beastie run!

Yesterday the big brown truck dropped off my fuel filter regulator so I installed it in the frame rail and ordered the rest of my fuel line and fittings.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

While waiting for my fuel line and parts. I started working on the parking break brackets and ran into a snag with the speed O cable. Looking at what Advanced Adapters Web site. It looks like I have or order the ATLAS II SPEEDO HOUSING Assembly and gear. Not sure why they did not add it to the transfer case when I bought it as part of the kit. In the top view it goes where the round red plug is

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I worked on completing some mounting brackets for my exhaust, fuel tank and parking break. Went to bolt on the flange for my parking break and it was locking up after tightening up the nut and the flange would stop turning. Ended up the mounting bracket was not pushed up tight to the tail housing of the T-case. finally figured it out after 2 hours of ripping everything apart. The brown truck delivered some of my fuel line and fitting so I started on plumbing the fuel system. waiting for the rest of the fittings to finish it up

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Well after 3 deliveries from the brown truck I finally got my fuel lines connected up and have 5 fittings to return to Summit. I found out early this week Advanced Adpters installed the wrong tail housing on my T-case. hopefully they will trade me for the right one. I need one for Variable speed sensor for newer Chevy LS engine. Part Mike who I got my parking break from was smart enough to set up the disc break to adapt a sensor to but it is another $110.0 delivered. I going to hold out for AA see if they come through.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Working on fixing 4 BOO BOo's on my truck the last 2 weeks.
1 fuel tank filler pipe in the wrong direction. Can't blame anybody but myself. I changed the direction at the last minute. shouda left it the way it was.
2 T-case tale housing not set up for variable speed sensor. Talked to Advanced adapters several time to get it corrected and the new housing they sent me does not fit in the back of my T-case even after heating up the case and cooling the tail housing.
3 rework exhaust X pipe to clear drive shaft.
4 oil pan oil sensor and slave cylinder for the clutch crashing into each other.
had to pull out my friend card to get some help fixing these items.

1 welding the fuel tank filler in the correct direction.
2 tail housing have it drilled and tapped for the VSS. 22X1.5 thread.
3 raise the exhaust X pipe so the drive shaft will clear the X pipe.
4 moving the oil sensor to the left side of the oil pan by welding a piece of 3/8" thick aluminum to the side and taping it for 18X1.5 thread.

There's always something especially when you're making great progress. At least you were able to use some of the friend cards. Usually those are always out going and not getting returned.

Are you going to install the same door in you new bed sides or is that what you did to the new bed sides?
